39 games is pretty low.
There is a fundamental difference between a shooter and a game with shooting in it. Not defending Alan Wake, but preempting a misconception I have seen a lot in threads like this. Also, some RPGs draw in people for the world (Elder Scrolls Games, Fallout Games), and some for the characters and story (Dragon Age, Mass Effect).Blunderboy said:This guy?Daftatt said:Alan wake is another good one.

I'm pretty sure he's shooting.
OT - Not really. There are as many as the market can support. If you look in the right places there are plenty of non shooter games.
There are probably more non shooters on PC due to the comparatively limited controls on consoles for things like RTS games.
Also, a lot of RPGs tend to be long running series because the world is what tends to draw the player in, rather than characters. Players always like to return to a setting they love.
Creating a new IP for RPGs is that bit harder I would imagine.
Yeah...you think that would be obvious to someone who bothers to list the second game in a certain spin-off (not really the right term) series of a franchise.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:What? Total War has been around for AGES dude.SomeLameStuff said:Shogun 2

Just glanced at raptr, I have 360 games listed and that's only my main Steam account and Xbox GT.
Thanks for posting that, Thal. I was going to be disappointed if I came in here without anyone saying Gravity Rush.Sober Thal said:This generation has been goin on awhile... so I'll just showcase the newest ones I've played recently: Gravity Rush.
Which is of course why games like Homefront, Bulletstorm, Duke Nukem Forever, and Medal of Honor sold so well...AD-Stu said:You've asked the question "are there too many shooters being released?" and, in my mind at least, the answer is obvious: developers and publishers wouldn't continue to churn out shooters if people weren't buying them.
People are buying them - lots of them. If you listen to the market, it's telling you very clearly that "no, there aren't too many shooters being released - in fact, we'd like some more now if that's OK with you"
In spite of actually looking like Morrowind times (engine wise), it was solidly in this generation. The current Console generation is shaping up to be 2005 - ~2013.Amaror said:Mount and Blade (Don't really know if it was this generation, i don't play on consoles)
It is a shame that such a beautiful game is stuck on the Vita's tiny screen. That there's a game that deserves to be drunk in from a large screen. I really wish more games would use this visual style. Because it is just amazing, the type of thing that will still look amazing well down the line.Sober Thal said:This generation has been goin on awhile... so I'll just showcase the newest ones I've played recently: Gravity Rush.
Wow, you got a lot of anger just bubbling at the top, don't ya? Just jump down a guys throat for anything. In the future, I'll refrain from commenting on the size of a portable console's screen, as apparently, that's a touchy subject for some people.Sober Thal said:It's a shame that people with Simpson avatars will wax poetic about things they don't have...wintercoat said:It is a shame that such a beautiful game is stuck on the Vita's tiny screen. OT: There are a lot more shooters than there were last generation. Some have been good some have been bad, but I wouldn't say there have been too many.
The screen is much larger than any other handheld system, but your kiddy tablets have shit operating systems that can't compete with real game systems... but since you don't own it, you want to talk down at it.
That's a spoiled American type prejudice dood.
Did you ever learn about cables? You know, those things that can connect things to each other? Savvy? Eh?
It's sad, just like hearing about a PC gamer that can't use his HD tv, but has to use his over priced 'monitor'.
lol

Yeah I know. I was just teasing.TheCommanders said:There is a fundamental difference between a shooter and a game with shooting in it.
