Neither. They're both good in their own rights. I'm a Bat Family fan, but Superman is a wonderful character. The Marvel equivalent of Superman is Captain America. Why do I say this? Well their characters are very much the same. They represent their own origin and are willing to defend it when necessary, put they are more aiming to bring justice. They are the definition of good.

Batman on the other hand is the "normal" guy who can help protect his city. He is intelligent, he is agile, he is strong. Where as Superman is more of a goody twoshoes, Batman is someone who brings Justice no matter the cost. For a Marvel perspective, I can't really say who Batman's counter part is, it's definitely a split. I would say he has the personal life combination of Spider-man and Iron Man [Tragic backstory, fights because of it, millionaire.] But the crime fighting aspect is more Daredevil.

But those are my opinions, both are good, they just represent something different.

Batman all the way! He's the pinacle of human fortitude, a symbol of what man can be with discipline and determination (and lots of money and dead parents). Superman's basically an indestructible (more or less) otherworldly character; his powers are by birth, not by effort. Plus he always seemed like a goody-two-shoes and his costume is a bit lame!

Superman doesn't have nearly as many obnoxious fans onvinced that their character is god.

Also, Superman wasn't in the single most overrated superhero movie ever made.

Alright. When it comes to fighting I am quite sure that Superman would punch a hole through Batman's face and that would be the end of it. Now it pains me to say that because I think as a whole Batman is a far better character than Superman. More interesting. His story lines are better, but, what do you guys think?

Superman for aforementioned face-hole punching
Wrong and wrong.

Batman has beaten Superman in the comics twice.

Batman always keeps a small stash of Kryptonite just in case Superman goes bad, and Batman always sees Superman's attacks coming because Superman is a meathead and Batman is a genius.

Superman is just blah......
All I can really say, his villains(and alotta robots), kryptonite and magic his only weakness, working at a newspaper, I mean how does he himself not get fucking bored with his life.

Superboy however...

Batman wins though.

Batman because he's the man with intellect. Brains will always triumph over brawn and Batman's lack of super powers cause him to be creative and always in top shape for any encounters with super beings.

To everyone saying Superman is boring, overpowered, has no peronality...

How many of you have actually sat down and read a Superman story?

Not a Batman story where Superman appears so he can get shown up by Batman, to show everyone how awesome and unbeatable Batman is.

Not a story where Batman and Superman ostensibly share billing, but Superman gets downplayed because the writer has a hardon for Batman.

An actual Superman story.

Superman is a much deeper character than people give him credit for, but Batman is...well, Batman.

Sometimes it depends on the writer but Batsy makes me squeal like a girl more often than Supey. I just enjoy the character more than Superman, but Big Blue has his moments.

I like Batman the most because even though he got his wealth when his parents died he needed to work hard to get his skills. He uses his money in order to fight crime his way. Superman is a hero. Batman is more of a vigilante. It's easier to see a vigilante who defies the law in order to do his thing than one who is praised by everyone.

Also Superman's "disguise" is too silly for me to be able to take it seriously. "Hey, that looks like Clark Kent!" "Don't be silly, he uses glasses and Superman doesn't". Also The Incredibles taught me that you should never use a cape. EVER.

Its more about aesthetics than stories. (although batman does have better stories(to me))
Batman
Normal man
Superman
Alien
see right there you already have to suspend your belief with superman.

Origin
Batman
Wants to bring justice to the city he grew up in so trains himself physically(like a ninja/fighter) and mentally(like a detective/scientist) to bring this about, also dawns black cape and cowl
Superman
Yellow sun gives him power
Keeps normalcy of his life, his town and sometimes earth, sometimes space.

Villains
Batman
gangsters and psychopaths(whom we all love)

Superman
Lex
Aliens
robots
anybody who knows his weakness

Combat
Batman
Cool gadgets
multiple offensive styles
Planning ahead or if not, analyzing for weaknesses

Superman
Punch
Tackle
various special attacks(lasers, ice breath)
hes a fuckin pokemon

Identity
Batman
Bruce millionaire wayne

Superman
Kent I work at the news Clark
Whos disguise no person can believe works as popular as superman is in his universe.

Batman wins over Superman any day. Why? Adaptability.

Superman is mostly suited for using his considerable brawn to take on his enemies, maybe with some creative use of his other super powers. Still, Superman is all about overpowering his enemies.

Batman, while not being as powerful, more than makes up for this deficiency with creativity, resourcefulness, and a bit of diplomacy. Batman's approach to solving a problem is more strategic. He comes at a problem from several directions at once in an attempt to defuse the crisis rather than just crush it into dust. Because of this, Batman can naturally solve situations where force is not an option, whereas Superman would have to stretch his resources in order to achieve victory.

*I base this opinion solely upon watching Batman:TAS, Superman:TAS, Justice League & Justice League Unlimited.*

Tricky one:

Mentally: Bats
Monetarily: Bats
Physically: Supes (by a long chalk)
Physically - with preparation time: Bats (He carries kryptonite and he has author powers)
Charisma: Supes
Characterwise: Supes - by a long shot: Batman has no real character.
Staminawise: Supes
Marysue Powers: Equally matched; both have done impossible things, have different coloured eyes, slept with lots of people.

Overall: Superman - because Bats has never died and come back again. He's been Bane-d, but it's not the same as Doomsday'd.

Superman isn't just my favourite of the two, he's my favourite Superhero (Unless Constantine counts).
Now there's a battle royale:

Superman (all American Good Guy) versus Constantine (all British Bad Ass)

Especially given Supes is vulnerable to magic.

Constantine versus Bats would be over instantly. Probably with Bruce and John in bed.

It's really hard to say. I love both of them, but Yahtzee is right: Batman is the least interesting person in everything he's in. His villains are the interesting story. Under the Red Hood: Joker scared me almost as much as Heath Ledger's, Jason Todd finally went from being a whiny asshole to an interesting character I liked and felt a lot of sympathy for (not to mention the great idea the writers had to ditch the Superboy Prime Retcon Punch). Yes, he is great as a whole but in all honesty sometimes I feel like writers have to purposefully nerf other characters to make him usable. Sure, Batman is prepared for everything any time but still.

Superman is also great because, well, he's superman. He's an alien raised as a farmboy to be a good person all around and use his powers to make the world better for those around him. Heck, he even continues to tell people not to view him or anyone else as a god and find their own way despite him having the power to do almost anything he wanted. Heck in certain comics he even decides to do so and things turn out for the worst (Superman: Red Son).

It's hard to call, I don't want to imagine a world without either of them.

Batman, given enough prep time he can take down anyone and has. From what i understand all of the kryptonite has been gathered and destroyed (on earth) as well as Bats has some in his possession. Superman is a good person, and i doubt would kill batman, even if he wanted to, he's a boy scout. Batman, however, if it meant him or Clark, Clark's days would be numbered. He's brilliant, and can come up with something that could defeat supes.
Superman actually gave Batman the Kryptonite in case he ever needed it, should Superman become possessed or lose his way or something. Superman definitely does have a good sense of foresight, no denying that.

I'm not arguing Batman is worse, I can't pick between the two XD

Well... that's arguable because of Final Crisis. Batman didn't technically die, he went back in time and became a caveman, pirate, knight, etc.

Superman came back from the dead, Batman got cloned and the clone got killed almost instantaneously as Batman was sent back in time within the same instant and had to fight his way back through time to come back...

COMICS...ARE...WIEEERRRRD!

Its batman, he probably has some krypotnite around somewhere and then he would use it to beat superman silly, like the majority of people have to do to even scratch superman.
But in terms of the person and story and villans, im still going batman, superman always seems kinda 2D to me.

sorry but no. superman gave batman the kryptonite just in case one day he goes crazy or something. And calling superman a meat head? Now that's just unfair superman is still a genius and could do things that no mortal man's brain could whilst batman is just better at deductive reasoning (seeing as how he is a detective in most ways)
