So my girlfriend and I sat down to watch this animated movie today.

*Spoiler Alert!*

For those unfamiliar with it, it's about Superman struggling with his moral foundation against a new team of anti heroes, who are quickly becoming beloved the world over, called the Elites who aren't afraid to kill to stop super villains, wars, and dictators.

At the end of the movie we looked at each other and I went ".... I... was totally rooting for the Elites." And she said "Yeah me too. Superman was lame and hypocritical. Look how many people died because he refused to put down that guy with the radiation skull. Look at how many people have died because Batman refuses the kill the Joker. All that blood is on their hands as much as the villains."

So, which side do ya'll go with? Superman's belief that no one should ever die and that peace is always the answer because heroes have to stand for the ideals of humanity? Or the Elites who killed dictators and repeat super villains because they always come back to kill again and it's the only way to stop their rampages for good?

I watched that film ages ago (loved it) and I was actually siding with Superman (he did make a good speech) to a certain degee.

Sure The Elites seen to be justify with their actions (when they reveal both warring sides leaders just wanted to killed each other than to negotiate for peace) but the film was suppose to gear up for them to be in the right in their actions well most of it.

I honestly don't believe that The Elites well keep using their powers for good of justice, more like anyone who had crosses them as in the usual case, too much powers can corrupt a person.

Yet again I suppose it because my moral is similar those with Superman in that I would suppose a peaceful solution then to seek out and condone a violence one.

I think the bigger question is that why don't they have death penelty for supervillain like the Atomic Skull well supervillain are a big threat? (Well comicbook logic never matches with real logic anyway.)

The finale makes the last point in the film - if you allow such a force to act as judge, jury and executioner, what is the value of justice and freedom? Are we to live in fear of crossing a line that an invisible force deems inappropriate, and then suffer the consequences in one swift blow to the head without warning?

I was rooting for the Elites, but I understood that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The greatest flaw and virtue of superman is his personality and values that stop him from abusing him powers the way the elites did. The only alternative to him are our good 'ol policemen and justice system (in the USA, for the most part). Have I mentioned the atlantic charter's passage about living free of fear?

Because we need them as recurring villains. Making new ideas is hard! Look at recent comic-books and you will see why.
