I've tried sushi before and I didn't like it.
I'm not really a big fan of fish.

First off I have never been one for fish, and as I was born and raised most of my life in tropical Australia that should be a black mark against me to begin with. Some of the worlds best fish come from the tropics and you know what... it is all over rated! We can have some of the best fish in the world on our plates but it still is just fish.

Which is what makes me think sushi, one of the most 'cultural' ways to eat fish, is twice as much over-rate! If it wasn't for the fact it is such a 'in' thing then sushi wouldn't be found outside of Asia at all and even there it would still, as it currently is, considered nothing more then the meal of poor folk.

That also gets me to the third part of this spontaneous bitching: The price! Maybe it is cause I am Australian and they do like ripping us a third arse hole when it comes to price of... everything... but sushi is faaaar worse. As you see it is a 'in' thing and this means the places serving it feel justified with easily putting thousands of percentages in mark up on little mouthful bites of FISH. Fish that likely. should you pay the same amount as bite of sushi, would feed not just you but your whole family....

So sushi, I feel, is over priced and waaay over rated.

I enjoy a little basic sushi (pretty much the stuff you get from buffets). I'm sort of wanting to go to a sushi bar to expand my sushi horizons, but there's not one around me. :(

It is the food of the Gods - I'm so happy that I live in a city where there is an all-you-can-eat sushi place literally every 4 blocks.

My favourite is unagi (eel). The worst I've tried is Uni (the insides of a sea urchin), it looks likes an orange paste, and they put a mint leaf on top, it tasted so so wrong.

Favorite roll, favorite roll...oh my gosh where do I start? Spicy Tuna you can't go wrong with. When in NYC I had "Pearl Roll" which was awesome. And it had SCALLOPS! Yum!

I love raw fish a little too much for my own good; I have such a hard time not gobbling down a steak of tuna before I'm finished grilling it.

Where can you get a hold of sushi-grade fish?
Fun fact: Sushi isnt actually raw fish. Its a very big misconception among many people. The seasoned-rice thats in the roll is actually the sushi. But since sushi is usually served with fish, people began to mistake that for being the sushi. Raw fish by itself is called sashimi (sa-she-me). Just throwing that out there ^__^.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sushi
Semantics, whatever.
I don't see how it has any particular relevance to what I said.
Fish that is suitable for raw consumption alone would also be suitable for raw consumption on rice, no?
Anyway, I'm a minor in Asian studies, particularly with Japan. I've been to Japan for weeks.
Hell, at the time of writing that first post, I was eating rice with nori.
I'm not stupid. I know what sashimi is, and I damn well know the basics of pronouncing Romanized Japanese.
my bad, didnt mean to cause offense. Am also studying japanese in college too (freshmen btw lol), and i took japanese in high school for 4 years. Its just that i always hear this misconception from everyone, and it just bugs me (one of my few pet peeves). And i only gave the pronunciation of sashimi b/c the average american doesnt know much jap. outside of konichiwa, sayonara, and kawaii ^__^. And i wasnt aware that you were studying japanese. So Anyways, i just mistook your post as thinking that raw fish was sushi. So again, gomenasaiiiii tomodachi =(.
I'm not diabetic, but I still get hypoglycemic pretty bad.
At my college, there is no weekend breakfast, but instead brunch at 11:30 AM.
Dinner the night before ends at 6:30 PM.
So, yeah, my reaction was really uncalled for, and I should be the one apologizing here.

Sushi is one of the most awesome foods on the face of the planet. The other most awesome food is any sort of pasta.

I only like sushi when it is fresh fresh fresh sushi. Freshly served and still twitching a little.

Supermarket sushi and sushi without fresh wasabi, meh, I can leave that

I love it, my girlfriend and I make it a lot at the moment.

I don't care what's in it, as long as there is soy sauce and wasabi.
Soy is the japanese version of ketchup.
It'll make everything better.
And wasabi is like chilli that doesn't burn your rear end opening on its way out.
So i agree fully.

OT, I love sushi, but i eat it very rarely, cause it's kinda expensive, at least where i live.
