Well, it was pretty good.

I would call it a musical for people who don't like musicals. And everyone sings well in it. Except for Alan Rickman (thats his name, right?)

I actually liked it I avoided watching it at first because it was a musical but I was pleasantly surprised upon watching it.

Although the Ray Winstone one still beats it hands down.

He's so nice too, he should really be called Sweety Todd: Gentle Demon Butcher of Fleet Street.

Just watched it the other day for the first time. I thought the music was great, the gore appropriate and the story well done.

Johnny Depp did a good job in it too.

What did you think?
A friend made me watch it, to be honest I was skeptical at first since her taste is... well girly, and I was fairly sure her only interest lay in Johnny Depp staring as sex appeal, but I did enjoy it quite a bit. Was very good at being... nasty. (I do like Johnny Depp, but said girl is very... uhhh... shallow)

When i watched it i didn't know it was a musical, so when Depp started to sing i was like "What is dis shit" but i gave it chance and i thought it was ok.

I also didn't know it was a musical when I started watching it, it gave me horrible flashbacks to "Highschool Musical" for some reason. I didn't enjoy the movie >>.

I thought it was great, wonderfully realised visual design and some great music. The gore aspect was what I had come to expect from Tim Burton I.E the blood looks so fake that it's easy to be taken lightly and just generally I thought it was a treat.
Admittedly I wasn't aware it would be a musical when I actually sat down to watch it but I liked it anyway as I do actually like musicals.

If you didn't like the movie then you should check out Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (Broadway) (http://www.amazon.com/Sweeney-Todd-Barber-Broadway-Keepcase/dp/B0013Z7RUC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1276122158&sr=1-2) It's so much better. Trust me.

Don't be dissing the Rickman!

Anyways, I enjoyed it quite a bit, for what it was, but I found the parts of the story that involved the angsty teenage love to be necessary, but close to unbearable. All else in the film was wonderful, though.

I think the character of Sweeney Todd was uninteresting. Sort of a big flaw for me.

The music was good though.

I personally loved the movie. The only problem that I had was that there was a stage production of it near where I live about a year before the movie was released that I happened to see, and I have to say the play is better. That said I still love the movie.

As for the gore factor, it's not actually all that gory. We get some slit jugulars and corroded arteries, but there's much worse out there nowadays(looks at District 9[another great movie]). Also, it wasn't like it was "realistic" gore, it was more...operatic I wanna say...than anything. The first time I saw the blood it reminded me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Also, it was nice to see Sna- er...Alan Rickman sing.

Music was wonderful, and speaking of that, does anybody know where I can get a nice download of the score, Pirate Bay seems to be terribly lacking in that department(for those oppossed to the whole "pirating" thing, nobody is officially selling the soundtrack, I believe, so nobody's really losing any money in this situation, are they?).

Notice how I avoided mentioning the whole Tim Burton, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter triangle thing(which worked great until Burton's Alice in Wonderland).

I quite enjoyed it! And it was good for creeping friends out by putting their name in the 'Johanna' song.
Also, the movie was kind of like 'HERE BE HELENA BONHAM CARTERS BREASTS'

I really loved it! Though, that may be in large part because I think Johnny Depp's voice is incredibly sexy.

I saw the play and liked it a lot as well, though because the version I saw was strange I don't think I liked it more. Also I was used to a very different Mrs. Lovett that had an actual British accent (Helena Bonham Carter), and the actress in the play had a decidedly American accent that destroyed every line of dialogue for me. I mean really, they're in London and she sounded like my very Californian friend.

The play also made me love Antony, who I can't STAND in the movie (the brat).

I'm totally digressing. I love the movie, and I loved the play -- but both for entirely different reasons.
