Poll: Swords or Guns?

I'm just a huge fan of swordplay, nothing wrong with guns though. I've always enjoying getting up close as opposed to drawn-out gunfights where ammo is an issue. Granted swords can break too but I like to think a skilled fighter can make a sword outlast any amount of bullets if they fight right.

Other: I usually do not approach directly or obiously. I prefer knives. They are personal, more practical for mundane uses (cutting rope, food, starting fires, tec.), so many different styles, and you can carry oh so many on your person at one time.

There is no honour in killing a person, get that fool notion out of your head. Be it from a gun or a sword, you are snuffing a life. A life hat may have had a family, a life that may have been loved by others. You have taken the life of someone that could have been just like you, could have been a friend if you were not on opposing sides of a conflict.
Oh man! I was about to post something just like this. I even have an idea for a cutscene where someone is tossed a sword for a duel, then shoots the other guy instead and delivers this sort of noir-speech; basically "We're soldiers - we're already f***ed up."

Why can't I have both? There's nothing like slapping a bad guy around with a sword launching him into the air, keeping him in the air a couple hundred rounds then slamming him back down. I mean look at the DMC games if you don't believe me.

Why choose?

WARHAMMER 40,000 [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Warhammer40000]
Where guns and melee weapons are equally valid.

Generally though, I'm not sure. I like both, depending on my mood.

Guns. At both ends of the spectrum.

A good rifle is a very effective weapon in the right hands.

While neither is desirable, I'd rather be shot than have a limb lopped off by a sword.
But what if that gun that shot you was a minigun and it obliterated your leg off...
That's possible but unlikely, whereas if I was attacked with a sword losing a limb would be a very likely outcome.

I based my preference on the chances involved. The consequences of being shot vary hugely depending on the type of bullet involved and what it hits. A gunshot wound that only damages muscle tissue is painful but probably won't result in any permanent damage, while a gunshot wound to major blood vessels or vital organs generally means permanent and irreversible damage and/or death. If it came down to it I'd rather be shot and take my chances that it's non-lethal than get carved up by a sword, the consequences of which vary far less.

There is more honor in wielding a sword. Gun fights (and the modern day wars) gets too impersonalized.
For a certain point of view you are correct, but then given that there is a great deal more skill involved in swordplay I would say it is less honourable, after all, where is the honour in a highly skilled swordsman cutting down 100 novices? The gun is a great equaliser, not to say there is no skill involved because there certainly is but even a novice can gun down an expert marksman if he gets the drop on him. I call that fair and fair = honourable.
There is more to honor than simple skill, even though you do have a point. But still with gunfights, despite being "fairly" matched at an other, it would still come down to who has a bigger gun, or who outnumbers the other. Where as swords it was a about skill and riscs. Experience and training is what made the heroes of the old days. There is nothing more glorious than being able to beat an enemy despite being outnumbered, yet not outskilled.

Look at my DP. Now look back. That's my answer.

Guns are for pussies who want to solve their problems from a distance. They allow people who don't know how to fight the ability to kill people without really being brave. Guns in the untrained hands can also send stray bullets into innocent bystanders, causing reasonless death. Swords on the other hand are the most personal way to combat a man one on one, face to face. No innocent bystanders can get hit by crossfire. And if you are unskilled with the sword, only you die. That's the most honourable way of fighting.
There is honour in snuffing out a life, as grim as you think it may be, when it is done for an honourable reason. Two men make a decision when they enter a sword fight. Yes both lives have a family, but these men have made the decision of life or death in order to show that they are willing to die for those family members and loved ones. These men are willing to put their very essence on the line to protect or uphold what they believe in. And these men are going to do it without risking the lives of the innocent around them by using swords instead of guns. That's the difference. Guns jam, and then later misfire, possible into the skull of an innocent child. Guns are used as intimidation, but if the gun accidentally goes off,the man behind the trigger may not be as strong as he made himself look out to be. most times he isn't. That's why using a sword is more honourable than using a gun. Killing people is wrong in society but it happens every day. I'm not saying it's right, but I'm saying that when two combatants choose to fight until one is left breathing, that's better then a stray bullet killing your target's wife.

Swords are cleaner and less likely to cause collateral damage so the ideal for a duel or fight in general. However, let's be honest you're far more likely to end up with a pistol in hand in a fire fight so while I prefer swords, I like training for both

Yes [http://www.amazon.com/Elder-Scrolls-IV-Oblivion-Xbox-360/dp/B000TG72PG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278415283&sr=8-1]
Well not to sound elitist I wouldn't ever get another TES game for a console after using the PC version. The console version in this case are truly inferior even you want to use a controller you could just buy one the amount of free content through mods is amazing.
This is a fair point which I concede to. I would use a PC if I had one (a) exclusively for games, (b) exclusively for me, and (c) it doesn't hurt to game on one.
Well I myself share the computer with mostly my sister while it is no where near high end gaming I would more say it is around mid and even then on the lower end of that of mid. You don't need a great one to play Vanilla Oblivion only some of the mods require lots of ram even then 2gb is more than enough for max specs. Although I don't really get point C.

I have my brother, who fails to recognize the importance of pop-up blockers, my father who by now owns 13 Nigerian princes, and my mother who struggles to find the power button let alone work any anti-virus or adware programs. The computer best able to use games was lower-end in 2004.

Point C is one I don't like to bring up often. I have an as-yet undiagnosed condition in my dominant hand and arm that involves constant (if low-level) pain which gets much worse when I'm on a computer for too long, which is the main reason I never really took to PC gaming.
