You are comparing apples and oranges. Guns are ranged, swords are not. You are dead before you get within sword range. If you start out 3 feet or less apart, the sword is better.

Yeah how about you lay 2 turrets and you trow at your enemies a targeting system complemented with an EMP. the turrets shoot at them and they dont know since the EMP damaged their radar.

Swords are 1 hit weapons in real life. KNOW THAT
Bows have THE BEST penetration among all mid range weapons. a vest cant stop a bow.
and guns are VERY spammy XD. spam spam spam you all dead Kekekekeke.

Well, lets face it. Both weapons have their strong points, but you see. I'm going to have to side with swords on this one. More close in, adrenaline pumping, high strung action from less of a fight. Also, the rich and cultured history of the blade wielded in battle, dating much farther back than any projectile mind you, makes it much more of an artform than just a simple way to kill someone. For example, Iaido, the Japanese art of drawing the sword, or "one cut, one kill" to make some random shit up, was started back a long time ago, I don't know when, when this one guy's family got killed, and it was his responibility as the eldest male in his family to kill the murderer and regain his families' honor. However, the man who killed them was one of the best swordfighters known to them. This got the guy thinking, "How can I stop this fight quick." That got him thinking if he could get a shorter blade for his sword and strike while the man was still drawing his insanely long blade, that he could draw his out really fast and cut him lethally. He spent a while developing the sword and the style. The result? He kicked the guy's ass and Iaido became a known style.

Long story short. Swords rule.

Depends on the type of sword and the type of gun. Swords can kill much faster than low-caliber guns (assuming a slashing sword, or a well-aimed rapier thrust), as long as you can get close enough. A gun with stopping power in the hands of a marksman beats a sword any time.

All in all, unless you're talking shotguns or heavier, it'll probably end in a draw. As for coolness factor...can't really decide. I'd probably go with sword, just for the skill and look factor, and to slice apart a few punks who think guns make them invincible (and run from smart gun-wielders).

Why choose?

One flaw in the design: There's no barrel (that I can tell).

On topic, swords. I have horrible aim and thusly a gun would not serve me well.

I said sword because I have this whole pholosiphy about if you are going to kill someone then you should be close enough to watch the life leave thier eyes. more respectful to them as well, guns are so inpersonal

Not apples and oranges, both were at one time the primary weapon of the world's armies, and I don't question the fact that a gun is better in most situations. But I will always use a sword because it represents the code of honor that I adhere to, and the respect I have for an age long past, where you felt every bit of ending a human life because it was your own force that killed him. I believe that technology has gone too far with the gun, and with the gun, cheapening the value of human life

Yes there is. It's just extremely small. Look at about the center of the blade where it meets the gun.

Oh I figured that was some kind of attachment piece.

Love the comparisons, and sorry I forgot to put a tie in the poll :(

I'm one of the few idiots who voted bows. If and when the apocalypse comes, guns will run out of bullets and few people will have swords to begin with. Plus a bow is the only weapon I've had formal training with. You can't silently kill someone with a gun, and good luck sneaking around with a sword. It doesn't help that I've been on a huge Huntsman kick lately either.

Hey, I respect bows, and honestly they get it worse than swords, which is sort of why I put the choice there

Guns for practicality: there's a gun for every situation, it's relatively easy to train someone to be competent with say, a shotgun or an assault rifle, than a longsword or gladius, and with proper training, a gun can be used as a weapon even after you run out of bullets.

A gun always wins, when it comes to range and length of reach, and there's even an extreme difference in speed, the gun comes out on top.

Guns win fights. As the saying goes 'who is stupid enough to bring a knife to a gunfight?'. Start from long range: no contest.

Short range: Block the strike, quick retaliatory attack, back off while stunned, shoot the idiot. That's if you're using rifles. Pistols, well: Keep backing off, while firing from hip/unaimed. A single hit will at the least incapacitate and you'll get plenty of opportunities as he tries to charge you while you keep backing up.

Guns win. Period.

But the fact is, you should never have to use either. The truly skilled never have to fight, they win before a single weapon is drawn.

Lets be honest, swords are a fantasy. You go up against anyone with a gun you will end up dead or with a few more bullets in your diet.
Most sword fights lasted around 2 seconds.

Chop. Chop. Dead.

Though, in Dante's hands, we all know that the sword wins.
Actually it's 2 minutes or less for sword fights generally. Not 2 seconds. I love swords, but they are impractical generally. However, anyone can wield a gun, there is a bigger coolness factor with swords and they are *quieter*!
