http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173758 vs http://www.ebuyer.com/product/180042

My GTS 8800 is on it's last legs, when I occasionally turn it on (seeing as I rarely turn it off) some of the screen has become illegible with red, blue and green clusters of quadrilaterals (but not always, a restart or two later it's gone).

So, I need to upgrade, which of the two products above is better? (aside from the more expensive one, nVidia changed their numbering system I have been left somewhat stumped, not looked at parts for a very long time, I mean I know the 6800 was better than the 7200, so this numbering system of 3 digits is new and scary)

Have you a option for under £100? My only 2 requirements are it must be better than my GTS 8800 and have a HDMI output as to stop my TV/Monitor losing sync through the VGA output I'm currently using.

Please help a gamer out.

Between those two cards, the 9800GT is noticeably faster. Either one is going to be slower than your current card if you have the 512 meg version of the 8800GTS.

Look into a Radeon 4850 [http://www.ebuyer.com/product/172948], which is in your price range and faster than all three of those cards.

I'd go for the new ATI midrange if you can afford it. I think it's around 100 pounds for the 5770.

Thanks, had a look, but the Radeon has no HDMI output, and you've kind of thrown me there, seeing as the 9800GT has 512Gb and the GT240 has 1Tb RAM. Also I do have the 512Gb 88000GTS It's still an awesome card

That 4850 comes with a DVI-HDMI adapter.

Onboard memory gets a lot of weight put on it because it's one of the few specifications that are directly comparable between video cards. However, it's not the most important factor in a card's performance. The actual chip used in the card (9800GT, GT240, Radeon 4850) and clockspeeds determines how quick the card is. The GT240 processor is slow enough that the 512 meg versions of the 4850 and 9800 GT can overcome their memory disadvantages and perform better.

Edit: The 5770 is also solid if you're ok with a budget stretch.

Yeah, it's quite decent and will be compatible with DX 11 when it's released. So I say go for that, as always remember to make sure your motherboard is compatible otherwise it'll be an expensive paperweight.

Cool, thank bud, trying to look for compatibility now, got a ASUS P5KC if you don't mind helping me with that too...

The card is PCI-e 2.0 x16 and the motherboard is vanilla PCI-e x16, but they're cross-compatible. It should be fine on that MoBo, but you should update your BIOS and clear the CMOS to be sure.

PCI-Express 2.0 is always backwards compatible with PCI-Express. No need to flash the mobo's Bios. You just won't get the full transfer bandwidth that 2.0 offers.

Cool, thank you both.
