The man himself said it that Discworld fandom is one of the quirkiest in the world.

My favourite is easily Hogfather, I was given a detention in primary school for upsetting two christian kids and stirring up the class and making the "Good Girls" scream when trying to explain satire with that book. All those people I know, are intellectualist snobs and would never admit to missing the point like that back then...

Apart from that I prefer the Wizards and their strong down-to-earth views and stories*

I wonder how many here have a got signed copies?




*For non-fans of the books this description of the wizards is pure liquid sarcasm and even more outrageous when you look at their behviour in the Science books.

It's strange but I've only read one book a book about people that like terry pratchett and seen a cartoon apparently based on his works.

Starting to feel out of place all of a sudden.

EDIT: Still havn't been able to find the cartoon again though.

I've got the 'Soul Music' cartoon on DVD - they also did Wyrd Sisters, i think.

The Discworld books are awesome, I'm less a fan of the Johnny or Truckers books.

Also check out the Christmas special of "With Great Pleasure" on BBC Radio 4. It'll be Terry presenting a selection of his favourite readings and things like that. I'm off to the recording in Bath on Friday! [/boast]

I used to read his books when I was younger, but I lost them all when I moved house.
My boyfriend recently bought me 'Maskerade' and 'The Truth'
I love them, they're bizarre, funny and original.
My friend has all of them, I'm going to borrow them one day, I loved 'Eric.'
Pratchett now has alchzimers, but I once heard that the greatest minds will one day suffer.

He used to tell his grand children stories at bed time, and someone said to him, "You have a great imagination, why don't you write some books?"

Anyone who looks at the book cover art and thinks the books are for kids should not read his books because they're too stupid to understand them.

Read most, if not all his works - and they are normally great! The only ones I didn't really like where the first 3 or so discworld ones. He was too focused on the fanatasy areas as opposed to the humourous stuff.

Too true - I read the colour of magic and the light fantastic recently and didn't think very much of it. I thought the series started improving from book 3 onwards though. Haven't read much pratchett over the last few years despite having about 20 of his novels in my bookcase. Read all the books 3/4 years ago. Need to read some more and re-evaluate him to be honest, however he was my God when I was 15. Can't see Night Watch being replaced as my favourite anytime soon however.

My mum's got pretty much all of his works as far as I know. I've only read 'The Amazing Maurice' and 'Only You Can Save Mankind'. I also got his autograph when he was signing books at WHSmith one time, whereas my my sister got his latest book signed for my mum's Christmas present.

I have signed copies of Going Postal, The Light Fantastic, Theif Of Time, Soul Music and The Last Hero. Book signing in Sydney. He's really short, surprising enough.

love terry prachett. Some of my favourite one-liners ever come from his books. The ones about Vimes are generally my favourite but i do have a soft spot for the 'small gods' book.

Personally the best character is Harry King: taking the piss since 1969.

Guards Guards was given to me as a birthday present when I was quite young, and I've read everything he's released prior and since. Guards still holds a special place in what remains of my heart. Pratchett is by far my favorite author. I have read everything of his I can find.
The Johnny Maxwell trilogy.
The Bromeliad (Truckers) Trilogy.

Every Discworld book at least twice each, some I've read over 10 times. Reaper Man is my favorite.
I even have copies of Strata and Dark Side Of The Sun stashed away somewhere.

Pratchett has to be easily one of the best authors of all time...
I personally love Going Postal, as I myself work in government so a lot of the jokes really get me :-D

However the new one, Nation, has some hilarious bits between the grandfather birds, beer and the parrot ;-) And the whole confused sign-language translation when the 2 main characters meet was awesome

And yes, I've read everything by TP except for the science of Discworlds, diary's and maps.
I find his earlier stuff (Light Fantastic) slightly better than some of his newer ones (Hat full of Sky), but they are all good.

When Douglas Adams shuffled off this mortal coil in 2001, I was quite sad; I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to find something as uniquely funny as the Guide.
Then I discovered Terry Pratchett and didn't feel quite so bad. Right now I'm finishing up Sourcery and laughing frequently.
