TES, because I just love fantasy games. I'd take bows, swords, wands and orcs to guns and grenades any day. Why waste time scrounging for ammo and medikits when you can just chop someone into pieces with your claymore?
fallout, because ive allways liked post apocalyptic setting in every game, movie, or book. Also in TES its weird how you can join theives guild, murdering guild, mercenaries(who are law abiding) mages (same) and still save the world. It just takes away the final bit of the games feeling plausible at all, but it can still be fun.
I've always been one of the opinion that sword fights are cooler than gun fights.
All the time spent playing shooters over the recent years has made me very sick of shooters.
So I get very weary of using guns. I definitely welcome the change of up-close and personal first person combat. Especially with RPG stats and loot. Oh, the loot.
TES. I've always enjoyed it more, I started playing it first and I love being a battlemage. I also prefer the music, the setting, and the choice to be a lizard man.
I can't say I prefer one series as a whole over the other; I'd take the classic Fallouts over TES until Morrowind, Morrowind over Tacitcs/BOS, Oblivion would tie with Fallout 3 since I both didn't like them. As for Skyrim, we'll have to see how it'll hold up against New Vegas, although it's unlikely going to beat an Obsidian game in story(telling) and dialogue.
I would say that I like the Fallout games better overall, as they're much deeper from a Role-Playing perspective than any of the Elder Scrolls games.
That said, the atmosphere in Morrowind was incredibly beautiful and probably my favorite of either franchise. The gameplay though has nothing on Fallout 1-3 and New Vegas.
I've sunk more hours into Morrowind into any other video game ever. (well, except WOW but the difference is I actually enjoyed my time playing)
While Oblivion was a bit disappointing, and Fallout 3/New Vegas were great, Morrowind was amazing, and it still has the best collection of mods out there.
So TES by a hair (although I haven't played Fallout 1/2, Daggerfall or Arena)
