Here is my text message etiquette:

@ Text me simple information, not things I have to scroll through
@ Text me whatever time you like, it is my responsibility to make sure it does not disturb me
@ Do not expect an immediate answer, this is not skype

Personally, I don't think you should text anyone when they are asleep. If you need to work out when you meeting someone in the morning you should bang out the details before it gets late. And don't text people when a phone call would work much quicker. I try to only text people things like "I'll be there in 15 min" or something equally simple. Also proofread the text. I couldn't tell you how many times I've gotten a text that was like working out a coded message. Oh, and don't text if it is time sensitive or urgent, calling is much quicker.
P personally disagree and say that it is your responsibility to make sure that your tech does not disturb you. I do agree that they should have worked it out earlier, but sometimes that is not possible or there is something they forgot to ask.
