In all seriousness, I kinda think the whole "deadly sin" thing is a bit ridiculous. In an unrelated note, I really like the work of George Carlin. And this has been a really long post, so I'll stop.

The bigger concept applies to all of the sins.
Lust: It's a genetic imperative to reproduce, God should want us to be horny.
Sloth: Alright, no defense here, but everyone needs a rest sometimes.
Pride: I think Sloth can help us avoid too much Pride, because you sit back and just think for a bit and see the real goings-on. But Pride is also natural, it gives us a reason to protect what we are proud of.
Envy: Again, no real defense, but you can't really get far in life without wanting SOMETHING. If you want nothing, then you are as good as dead, and I don't think that "make everyone into empty shells because they want nothing" is on God's to-do list.
Wrath: No defense, won't try to justify, anger is bad. However, it is natural and cannot be be stopped.
Gluttony: Again, no defense, but at a certain level, you need to have want in excess to have the tools to survive. This is a not good one though.
Greed: Same concept as Gluttony, still not good.
This is all in my non-religious, non-religiously-informed, skewed vision of the world, but still...
