Come on now you're joshing me surely? The timberwolf had major design flaws.. the poxy arms getting shot off and the shoulder missile racks cooking off and taking out your torso springs to mind. Very few missions where I would load out a timber wolf.

As for the Direwolf... it was Dire :) The only mech I can kill in a matter of seconds in any other mech because of its massive cockpit being such an easy target. That thing is a death trap.
Tons of issues, but I loved it regardless probably because it was the most recognizable of the mechs and because damn it all, the Madcat looked sweet. And if you're taking out Daishi that easily, then whoever was piloting it was crap. With the sort of tonnage the Daishi boasts and with so much of it being omni-tech, you could kite those baby out with enough firepower to blow the legs out from just about any other mech in a single burst-fire.

Pshaw, you underestimate the advantage 100 tons worth of omni-weaponry brings to the table, especially in skilled hands. ;)

Besides, you'd be piloting a mid-range Loki who's armour is so thin a strong enough sneeze is likely to leave the pilot engulfed in flames. Just glancing in the direction of a Daishi, Atlas, or any other Assault mech has been known to lead to Loki self-destructing. Gargoyle while boasting decent armour and surprising speed for its size, not only looks silly but also far too lightly armed for its class... plus its arms are way too easy to destroy leaving the poor lil' things even more helpless so all it can do is run around and be a general pest. And the Warhammer... Actually I rather like the Warhammer. They're a solid all-round mech, versatile, fairly heavy, good armour, looks deadly... yup, it's alright!

Still no match for my Daishi though.
Sure you can't match the Direwolf for raw firepower but in MW2 at any rate a little machinegun fire to the head or even upper chest area was almost guaranteed death. I remember doing trials in light mechs loaded to the gills with machineguns and taking out 5 stars of direwolves :) Though Its a little more tricky with a human opponent granted.

Now the hellbringer is a glass cannon, but my what a cannon, if you can manage the heat that baby can go toe to toe with anything... I pilot a hellbringer though most of the MW2 missions.

The gargoyle is a gem in disguise, its imperative to custom load it, don't put anything in the arms and just use them as shields. There is more than enough room in the torso for a good loadout of guns... then you have yourself a heavily armoured, well armed battlemech with a slim profile and a great turn of speed. Its my personal mech of choice actually. The default loadouts suck though.

Cool, someone else who has fond memories of Home of the Underdogs. Hordes of the Underdark rings a bell, but not as something big enough to take over the HOTU acronym.
it did while hordes was a current game. I went from being able to fire up google and type "hotu" and get back home of the underdogs as the first hit, to not even having it on the first page.

Every RPGer was talking about HOTU (hordes) back then.

Sigh I think mech warrior 2 but then remind myself it's 15 years later and the world has changed.

Damn free births.

Noob says, "What is a mech warrior?"

This thread makes me sad. MechWarrior 2 was one of the best PC games of its time.

This isn't a had you heard of Mechwarrior thread, though.
I'm sure that more people have heard of it, just no one associates it with MW2 for obvious reasons.
well of course was just stating my disappointment only four people... at the time voted mechwarrior

(If you don't think MechWarrior 2 was awesome, you must not have played the Ati Rage edition. It was sweet.)
Ati Rage edition, improved skybox rendering, improved model and (OMG!!!) 3-D particle rendering!!!

I still have that disc somewhere, loved it and played it to death. Nothing more hilarious than a Jenner with Stacked machine guns...

Heat level: critical... Shutdown sequence: initiated... Shutdown sequence: overridden...

I always have to remind myself that MW2 doesn't always mean Mechwarrior 2.

Critical hit: Internal ammo explosion detected... Critical Hit... Critical Hit: Weapon destroyed... Group fire engaged.

Mech Warrior 2 was first, so it's abbreviation, MW2 still stands.
Modern Warfare 2 is abbreviated CoD:MW2, or CoD 6.
My thoughts exactly. Wow, I had no clue there were so many MW2 fans out there. It's a shame we can't get a modern game like this.
And for the popularity of battletech, I find it hard to believe so few forum members have ever heard of MechWarrior 2.
