What do you think of the American Dream?
I'm writing a short paper related to this and I wanted to know some of your opinions.
DISCLAIMER: I acknowledge that threads similar to this may exist somewhere in the dark depths of this site, but I didn't want to necro one.

every dream is different... and every person must first make the effort to travel their road before they ever set foot on their path..

basically saying...we all have our ideas and dreams of what the " american dream" ( this coming from a Scot now living in the states) it can be obtained when someone makes the right choices, and motivate themselves and are willing to take risks, but not give up if a risk they took backfires...

It's called playing smart really.. while I advocate living in the now, one will need to be mindful of potential obstacles and work to avoid them and have many back ups.

am I living my dream? I suppose, it changes over time... I spent my childhood being prepped to take over my grandfathers role in the family, and to be a historian, anthropologist... Always working on that even when my fathers job took us all over the world...I fought 11 years in uni..... and what do I do now.... Im an illustrator/animator/mangaka, my time in uni...somewhat wasted...but still should I want to I can retire in 5 years " I'm 28" Im married, have two boys, and entering a phase where " my dreams" change as the family ages...

I'm happy.. I live my life and let experiences come to me.. so by definition, I would consider that living a dream.....I wont so much say the " American Dream" as again, there are too many possible dreams out there for one to follow.

The American dream may have existed at one time, but today with modern day society's standards, its pretty much nothing. The American dream back then was a regular house with a white picket fence and a family of four eating some apple pie. Modern day dream, mansion with a plethora of people kissing ass and all the cars and money you can think of. In other words, people expect too much and become depressed if they come up with the American dream of the olden days.

I wish people would get out of lala land with the modern day dream though. I want to be a designer, will I live in a mansion? NO. I will probably make a few games that you might of heard of, will that make everyone follow my every command? NO. I will hopefully work for a massive gaming corporation, will that give me alot of money and cars? NO. Even if there were a chance that I could have those things, imagine the years of work and dedication that it will take. I will take the small house( or apartment, if it comes to that), no fence, please, and the small family with apple pie.( Though I would probably end up with nothing but the apple pie at MiceyDs=P)

End rant. And this long ass post.=)
