Gat damnit!!

Alright, since this generation of consoles, I've been pretty good about not breaking my controller. I have shifted from throwing them to more squeezing/twisting it.

But then I got SSF4...

Playing this online has lead to a lot of rage, what with people being ryu/ken/akuma and just spamming hadokens and mashing buttons because all their moves seem to link. So instead of throwing my controller, I'd punch it. Yes, stupid, I know. Then I was playing LA Noire and knowing the person is lying but choosing the incorrect evidence as proof, shit's ible to piss you off. and it did. The controller kinda broke, but I was able to salvage it with duct tape.
Tonight I was playing SSF4, and the R1 button was off after the mend I did. I became upset, and punched the controller into an un-repairable state. Shit.

I know I just need to chill it (it's only a game), but I ask Escapist crew, have any of y'all broken a controller?

I did throw a control once when I was pissed, but it was a gamecube controller so it was completely unharmed. Nintendo must have been planning for an apocalypse that generation because their stuff was indestructible. I've seen a GC tossed around and dragged behind a truck and then still play games.

All of my NES, N64, Wii, and Xbox360 controllers are working great still. Only my PS2 controllers are breaking down a bit, but that's because they're made of crap. The shoulder buttons on those are all screwed.

I still have my original 360 controller from when I got my 360, a couple months after it was released.

They do wear though. My left thumb stick is really loose now. I'll often times end up moving foreward when I don't mean to, becuase the stick is at the exact spot

Never ever.

I sometimes grip mine tightly for a few seconds but that really does nothing. If I'm on PC I go punch my pillow.

I've never broken a controller in anger. I had a bunch of PS2 controllers eventually die because of breaks in the wires from general wear and tear, but I've never understood why people get mad enough at a game to break their controller; if nothing else, those things are flipping expensive. If you know how to do the labor yourself, it's generally cheaper to punch a hole in the wall and then repair it than it is to break a controller. That also brings up a point -- breaking a controller over a game shows a severe lack of anger management skills. I don't understand why gamers just accept it, instead of staring at a rager like they had just punched a hole in the wall -- they effectively have.

Nope (well, not in anger). I'll kind of clench my fists around it, but nothing that does damage. No, the only controllers I've broken have simply become unusable due to old age.

Yes, 2 actually. Both were USB controllers, I broke the first one playing Assassin's Creed and the other one playing BlazBlue.

I might slam my fist onto the desk next to my laptop, but even when a something makes me angry, a make sure not to take it out on anything expensive/fragile.

Not 'outta rage. Mostly just them falling 'offa stuff or people leaving them on the floor and me tripping over them.

It's only other gamers I've met who understand punishing your controller. I suspect that it's because it's a feeling they've all felt, whether it was acted on or not

No, I've never broken a controller when angry. I've had one die, most likely from old age and over-use.

When my dog was a puppy he chewed the little pads off of the thumb controls on my x-box360 controller because I had left it on the floor. Still works fine though, so I guess you can't say it's broken. Just a little banged up. Luckily he must not have liked the taste, or being reprimanded, since he's never done anything like it again.

I have one controller that's split open a bit but still works fine. Never really broken one outright.

Never had one break on me. We had a triggerhappy original Xbox controller, which is why I always played Halo with the "Shoot" and "Grenade" buttons switched. >.>

Still, I've never been compelled to break a controller. I have always gotten bored with something long before I was able to get to a point that would induce rage.

Why would you throw a controler?

Hell no, Im not paying another 40-60$ for another one.

Besides I can never get that angrey.

EDIT: I just can't take people online serious enough to get the angrey, I felt the need to clarify.

I broke my 360 controller open when I realized I couldn't get the last screw out because the top of the screw had been worn smooth. I'm in the process of fixing three controller right now, but lack of money is keeping me from finishing.

I've never broken a controller. I tend to just scream inside my head. I know my friend's brother has elbowed one into an unrepairable state.

EDIT - Playing Ninja Gaiden 2 so, understandable, yes?

Not since I broke a joystick on my old Amiga many years ago. I think it was because of some kind of racing game.

Never thrown one. I've dropped a couple (about 1 foot or 2 from the ground is all) and I've had a couple PS3 controllers where the left joystick stops working or gets stuck, leading to cartoonesc cliff falling but never thrown one.
