Poll: The Daily Show and The Colbert Report

I hate the Daily show because I just don't find it funny. The Colbert Report on the other hand I find Pretty funny. And yes they are Somewhat news sources.

I dont really like either of them. They would be funnier if they didnt put up their own opinions so often. They make themselves out to be moderates when anyone can see that thye are pretty liberally bias which puts off most conservative watchers like myself.

And dont like the people behind the shows either. Jon is a hypocrite, calling himself fair but he makes a policy of not booking conservative pundits except for religious leaders, high-profile news anchors and politicans but you'll never see Andrew Klavan or Josh Shapiro on his show. And Colbert is just a jerk. The last straw came for me last Ash Wendsday when he "gave his up Catholicism" for lent and WIPED OFF HIS ASHES! Thats just downright disrespectful I'd say.

Yes, I have noticed that they are liberally biased. I also understand how that could easily throw anyone who is conservative off. Not saying that conservatives won't enjoy, I just see the issue in which they might not. Did not see the Colbert Report that he did that on... He probably meant it as a joke but that is a bit.... yeah.

I love both shows to death. They each have a unique angel.

John Stewart is "voice of reason" and Colbert is the cartoony extreme exaggeration of conservatism.

Hilarious, and yeah they do have legitimate news, and often make good points about their news stories. (through blatant, though often hilarious facts from John, and irony from Stephen)

Though they're obviously not comprehensive news stories. Their main focus is comedy. You can watch the shows for news, but not ALL of your news.

Well, they're not liars, but they probably pick and choose stories based on their (comedic, left-leaning) agenda. Of course, all news probably does that to some degree.

Colbert is lots of fun to watch though. Stewart...he's ok, I guess. Could do better without his make-a-face-to-signal-the-audience-should-laugh thing

I like the shows, but I would never consider them news. Above all else, those two are comedians. These are the guys you watch after you already caught up on current events.

My favorite type of show to watch i love satire.

Rick Mercer Report is my favorite or political shows but that is because i am Canadian.

Next is Colbert he is funnier i think, where as Stewart is more politcal focused

They're actual news in that they report on real stuff and pick at mis-information and such, but you do have to take everything with a grain of salt. The main purpose is to entertain, to inform is secondary.

Other than that one bit where Stewart spent ten minutes talking seriously about the state of the world. That was...shockingly straight and bleak of him.

I much prefer the Colbert Report, which I don't consider news at all.

I pretty much just look at the both of them as comedians rather than a legitimate news source. As much as I like Stewart, I prefer Colbert because he's "my kind" of comedian, which is more on the silly side.

They have some informative stuff, but it's all for laughs. I like Colbert more, he's funnier to me. Stewart's alright, but his correspondents are funnier in my opinion.

No, they're not news. Their comedic, satirical commentary on the news and on current events. Basically, they're news in the same way as The Onion is news.

Doesn't mean they're not awesome.

Been a while since I watched Red Eye though. Reminds me I need to set up the recorder thing to do it again.

As for Colbert and Stewart... they're OK.

I take none of these three as news sources, but Greg is a bit more funny. At least I think so.

Can't see them in Blighty. Unless you do it illegally, which I wouldn't endorse.

But you couldn't really call Mock The Week and Have I Got News For You news shows, despite teaching you about the news. They are slightly biased.

No, I'd say one is an opinion show and the other is a satirical opinion show. I mean, they act as my source of news, sure, but they aren't "news" shows.

Also, as to preferences, Stewart is a little bit more political, so I like his show more.

They're sort of news. Very select news.

I find both shows fascinating, and sort of comforting in a way -when you live somewhere like NZ, where our politics only cover the spectrum between 'Very slightly left of centre' and 'very slightly right of centre', American politics (particularly the conservative/republican side) can seem downright psychotic - it's nice to know that there are people out there calling the crazy shit out.

Also, where did anyone get the impression that the shows present themselves as 'moderate'?!? We know moderate in this country, and those shows are clearly leaning to the left. They shouldn't have to apologise for it either - there is *no such thing* as an unbiased news source. It's just not possible! That's why you have a bunch of different news sources - if you're looking for unbiased, read all the sources and mentally average them =P

Note: I am in no way calling republicans psychos. I appreciate that the particular things that the shows choose to highlight are the extremes, because they're better value to lampoon.

They do deliver the news, but they shouldn't be your only choice. I like Stewart better because he's constantly pointing out the blatant hypocrisy of both parties. And he's funnier.
