I understand that there are plenty of hype driven threads involving TES, but I wanted something more. I've been a fan of the series since Battlespire, and wanting to create a thread I decided it would be best to use something I know about. I don't need people on here going on about how it should be or what the gameplay should include or whatever. I want good educated guesses based in ... uh ... Well just have a reason to support your claim other than, "Cause itz da bomborz!!XD" I'll start by giving an example and my thoughts at the same time:

I beleive the game will be set in the Summerset Isles, and focus on the civil war happening there. I belive it will be as such due to people around Cyrodiil talking about it. In Daggerfall some of the NPCs (though there were't many) talked about the prophecy in the land of the Dunmer. (I belive the words were "I've heard rumors of a dark prophecy in the eastern kingdom.") In Morrowind you heard people all over the place saying things such as "I hear there's trouble in the Capital." Now in Oblivion I hear about a civil war going on in the land of the Altmer. So, needless to say, I feel the game will be there and focus around the High elves' civil war. Thoughts?

Note: This is my first post, please dont be too harsh.

I heard a rumor that the game would be set in Skyrim. But this was a while back, so who knows. Personally, I think the Summerset Isles or Skyrim would be fun. Actually I'm sure whatever Bethesda does will be great.

Excellent first post. While I'd love to see Skyrim, the Summerset Isles make the most sense. I mean, the NPC's in Oblivion can't shut up about all the trouble that's going on there, and the talk about it has increased in frequency and graveness with every game.

I do hope they get different voice actors for all the high elves you're going to encounter. I disliked the Oblivion actors.

I remember reading some official news about this a long time ago; I'm not sure if it's reliable or not, but they mentioned Daggerfall and some other place.

But why restrict on a single area? We're ushering into the future of games; why not allow the player to venture into several different areas? It'd be awesome to revisit the old places in a current-gen game.

Honestly, whatever it is, I'll be glad to get back into Cyrodill again. With any luck, the armor and weapon sets will be a bit more expansive than Oblivion's though.

I disagree. The comments that I seemed to keep hearing in Oblivion led me to believe that the current state of things was more focused on Valenwood and Elsweyr; that huge war going on between the Bosmer and Khajiit.

I mean, that's been going on since before Jagar Tharn showed up on the scene, and it's showed no signs of stopping any time soon. It's about time we got to experience it first hand.

Skyrim is the most likely candidate but I'd really like to see something take place in Elsweyr, the whole jungle/desert thing looks pretty interesting.

I either want it set in Black Marsh or Elsweyr. Black Marsh because of the potential for conflict with other nations, Argonian struggles for independence and cross-border raids, as well as to expand on Argonian culture, and Elsweyr for similar reasons - the war with Bosmer - but also because I think the environments would be so interesting. Plus, I just love Khajiit.

I would love to see one set in Akaviir, but I suspect that it might be set in either the Sumerset Isles or Daggerfall.
I would probably pick Sumerset Isles, I always play as a High Elf, and it would be awesome to see the council and the tower, I think I remember reading about it in a book, some great council (wizards?) and a giant tower.
It would also be cool to somehow import your Oblivion character, that would be pretty cool.

My god, it would be terrifying if they set it in Black Marsh. Did you read The Argonian Account? That place is a hellish swamp land soaked in the blood of nightmares.

Precisely.

I would really like to go to Summer set Isle. That or the Black Marsh. Oh please let it be in the Black Marsh!
It's like I'm the only one left with any self-preservation instinct. A game in set in Black Marsh would require that Bethesda put in some minstrels. That way, I can at least listen to Sir Robin's theme song when I'm running for dear life.

I just did a quick circut of Cyrodiil and listened to people talk. In Leyawiin they discuss the Vallenwood/Elsweyr conflict, the Summerset Isle civil war, and the Black Marsh resistance. In Bruma they talk about the revolt happening in Skyrim, the Summerset Isle civil war, and for some odd reason how the best armor comes from Daggerfall. Everywhere else just goes on and on about the Altmer, ranging from their civil war, to their revolt agains the Imperial Legion, to problems with Deadra worship. My thoughts still stand on the subject, though now(thanks to you guys) I have a wider view of what may happen.

More ideas are welcome though!

Isn't the air in Black Marsh poisonous or something?
I would have to say the best place would obviously be Skyrim.

Rely on the books, too. Some are history, but some are current political and social issues. For instance, the Khajiit in the Dark Brotherhood hideout had a bylaws book for a group of guerilla fighters in Elsweyr, fighting against the Bosmer and the Empire.

I'm thinking due to the wars in Elswyr and Summerset Isle it might be in one of those. However, due to the rising conflict in Summerset I think it will be there. It could be that civil war just breaks out when the game starts. Or it might be like Morrowing and your chosen by the gods to stop the wars in Elswyr. My vote goes for Summerset.

First off: El Snippage?

Second: Yeah. I'm actually one of the losers who've been caught spending hours in one of the book stores. Truth of it is that the books talk about all the history equally. Though I have found Imperial Documents targeting Skyrim and Blackmarsh equally. Then again, I also saw that some target Morrowind of all things. Using the books as basis can become more of a tally count nightmare than I want.
