It has been a full year since the release of DMC: Devil May Cry. So enough time has passed that the rage and anger of the fans of the original games have settled down, some of them anyway. Now I know there's been a whole lot of these kinds of threads across gaming sites, but i wanted to put my opinion out there. Back in 2010, the first trailer was released, some were intrigued at the by Ninja Theory's take on the series, most were enraged and hoped it was some stupid April fools joke. The Game released to positive reviews from Critics and some good player feedback, but most of the fan base still couldn't get over the new vision of the the series. I'm going to stop now before this turns into a review. The question I want to ask all of the fans of the new take and the old series. Which universe do you want to see continued? Please DO NOT make this thread about which Dante is better.

New DMC.

If the combat can be refined to be just that little bit tighter and smoother, it'll surpass DMC 3 in every way for me. The neo-gothic stuff of the original four games is cool, but it's just not visually interesting to me. Contrast with the normal-ish world and crazy Limbo side of DmC, and there's no contest. Plus while the combat feels stiffer than DMC 3 or 4, actually running around the maps, especially in combat, is so much easier. And the removal of ridiculous time-wasting puzzles or obnoxious fixed-camera-angle platforming segments was a positive as well in my opinion. The levels are far more straight-forward, but I can forgive them for that because I simply found them more fun to play.

I'd like to see playable Vergil expanded further, as well. Personally I found him more fun to play than Dante in DmC, and I like playing his DmC version far more than his DMC 3 version.

I'm going to say DmC:2 even though I haven't played the game yet (and loved 3). I feel like the story department of Devil May Cry was pretty much tapped and Devil May Cry 4 was the proof. That story had no reason to exist and the characters had absolutely nowhere to go. Dante had an arc in DMC3 and DMC1, but by the time he reached 4 there was nothing left for him to do and so he just sat around and wisecracked. (Also I kind of feel like DMC4 screwed up the style somewhat. This might be because I'm more loyal to 2 than 1, but the characters felt a little more sleek and non-ridiculous in 3, particularly Lady)

Having a reset and working on a new character is better than them floundering a round ruining a finished character. Saying that I don't know if Capcom will be wise to make another one either way :( I feel like 4 and DmC didn't really rock anyone's boat and it feels hard to sell a hack 'n slash nowadays when we've got Arkham City, Assassins Creed and Dark Souls. They're all sort of crowding in on the territory and offering other things, and then in terms of linear games the Uncharted's and Tomb Raiders are also changing the bar in that direction. They probably need to reinvent themselves some more, as something which is nothing like none of those but still changes it up

Devil May Cry 5 for me. I'm more of a fan of the original and...well, I've said it before but I don't like reboots. Actually... having to choose between one or the other - there you go, this is a good example of why I dislike them in general.

I recently played DMC:DMC it was free on PS+ (it'S nice that ps+ works with both ps4 and PS3 2x the free games . I didn't like it... as a DMC game . It would have been cool as a new IP but i couldn't get over the new dante . It's by no means bad , but it didn't feel like Devil may cry . So i voted DMC5 . New Dante / Vergil suck in my opinion.

Protip for the next game: Remove basically everything from the new DmC.
Remove new Donte and his smug fucking face.
Remove new Vorgil and his dumb fucking hat.
Remove the overly serious story and it's awful writing.
Remove the overly easy combat that struggled to meet Devil May Cry 3's normal mode wile DmC was on the hardest difficulty.

Actually I kind of liked how the triggers (or shoulders, I forget) switched weapons easily and freed up certain controls. That was nice.

Huh, it's funny, I just ordered a copy of Sengoku Basara 4. Classic Dante and Virgil are actually being made available as character skins for Date Masamune and Ishida Mitsunari.
Anyway, I doubt we'll be seeing a return to the good Devil May Cry anytime soon, beyond just character skins in other games.

DmC2. Simply because I enjoyed DmC overall a lot more than I did either of the DMC games I played before that, which was 1 and 4.

They'd need to get better writers to be fair, but they'd need to do that for any potential DMC5 too. Tighten up the combat a bit too, and it could be excellent.

I'm a little torn to be honest, DMC: Devil May Cry may have burrowed some of the story aspects from the movie "They Live," but I feel that the fast and responsive sense of control, and Changes to platforming that was in this reboot that Capcom overlooked in the past games for years was just fixed up so nicely, but I can't deny, it is sad to think the original characters could never be heard from again.

I feel that Devil May Cry 3 easily had the best story, characters and enviroments to explore. Devil May Cry 4 made some bad choices like changing the main Character from Dante to Nero, and taking away the personality of my favorite characters "Lady" in place of bigger tits. I think it was this game that capcom start talking about rebooting the franchise. So in a nutshell i love all of the Game play changes that DMC: Devil May Cry brought to the table, but I still look back on Dante and the other characters and smile. If Ninja Theory can bring their A-game to the story and Characters (Which they did not if any of you have played their other works) than there could be a bright future for this series.

For me it depends. I would love DMC5, but not if Ninja Theory is developing it.
If Ninja Theory is the only studio out there who is doing it, then I'd prefer DmC2.

I actually really, really liked the Limbo environmental design. It was very good. The music was good too (Noisia!). In fact, the level design was probably the best the series has ever had. Keep doing that.

However, the more serious story was kind of just weird. I like my Devil May Cry games kind of... I dunno, aloof. A little more "theatric" a little more carefree. A little more, well, stupid I guess. Donte opens with trying to be that "carefree punk" character, but he really doesn't keep it up much past the first or second mission. You're writing a game where the main character is a Nephilim that kills monsters the size of skyscrapers with a sword bigger than he is. This probably isn't the ideal game to make social commentary on American corporatism and institutionalized social debt from banks.

The combat was a step down in my opinion from 3 and 4. The core engine they have going on is solid, but they need to work on adding more depth to it. Also remove the damn red and blue enemy thing. It was restrictive, annoying, and really got in the way of what would have been much more enjoyable encounters.

In other DMC games, with rare exception, I often felt like when I got hit or messed up in combat it was really something I could have avoided with more practice. With the red/blue enemies if they're all grouped together you're just SOL. There's not really a damn thing you can do other than run around kiting them hoping they split up. That's not what I want from my combat game.

Also, please cut down on the platforming. DmC had a crazy amount of it.
Yes, the series has always had platforming; but scale it back a bit!

I said Devil May Cry 5 because I like original Dante better but I am liking DmC:DMC. Although if Capcom wants to contract out they should hire Platinum. Which would be ironic (maybe, Please inform if misuse of the word Irony), since they let them go as Clover and now they would be the best hope for one of their iconic series.

Okay, I'm a sucker for good characters, writing, and story. Now, I'm not saying that the new DMC was a masterpiece in writing but comparatively... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8qG4AlK1qk

Also, I only just turned 19 so DMC1 came out when I was 6 and my parents bought the whole, "Video games that have guns in them train you to be a psychotic murderer" thing from FOX until they got their head out of their ass, Gamespot convinced me that DMC2 was dogshit, when I finally played DMC3, (The original one) it was so testicle crushingly hard that I never even got past the first stage, and DMC4 lost me the instant I heard someone say something. (Good lord the writing in that game was abysmal.)

My point is that I had exactly zero attachment to the original DMC series so when DMC: Devil May Cry came out last year, I rented it from Gamefly and I freaking loved it. DMC: Devil May Cry 2 for me, honestly.

No future*.

Don't get me wrong, it's one of my favourite series but between how lackluster Devil May Cry 4 was and the reaction of all the whingers to DmC I can't help but think that the series is dead in the water.

*Please let me be wrong

Does DmC pick up? I loved the original. I got the new one free on PS Plus but so far its just...meh to me. I don't have any incentive to play it. I just got upto Chapter 8 where you find the guy with half his head missing in Limbo. Please tell me the story begins to pick up?
If you're playing the game for the story you might be disappointed. Are you at least enjoying the combat?

both in a a slightly perfect world (a perfect world would be one where capcom would have made the 5th one in house) both exist in separate universes so there's be no sense in one dying and other living it could work in alternating (one year main series another year is dmc) but I'd say
just because I wanna see how the world is now that limbo is merged in there
or if capcom does another reboot or pass off the series to someone else I really wish they would give it to platinum games just cause I feel they would make an awesome devil may cry game

I personally felt they could have worked virgil a little more he was a little more slow paced compared to dante and lacked the variety of weapons dante had but then again dlc maybe in a full game he could be fleshed out more

DMC5 pls.
I'd prefer Ninja Theory/Tameem never touch the series ever again after that financial wubfest failure.
Platinum Games though... GO CRAZAH! (It won't happen, let me dream in peace ok... T__T)

DmC Dante Must Die was hard?!...

^THIS especially.
Remove the easy SSSs, for the love of all that is holy please.

And for those who says there isn't more to explore in the DMC universe after 4, there's still a lot of potential actually.
A game on Sparda and his antics, more in depth explanation on Virgil and his involvement with Nero's arm (thanks for cutting development in half Capcom...).

Bring back the superior gameplay from 4, ramp that same gameplay up some more!, bring back good ol Uncle Dante, and just the overall fun the series was known for.
Drop the genericness, bring back the style.

EDIT: Just remembered! They could continue the story on Dante and how he gets out of hell at the end of DMC2...
Yes yes I know, DMC2 is dumb and stupid and is better off non canon (I can say the same for DmC anyways), but if anything they can just retcon DMC2 Dante's personality of wood and just continue on from there!
No harm done! *gags a little*
OR or... just make it non canon, ignore what I said, and go from DMC4... I need to stop talking about DMC2 or i'll pass out one day.
