Well, I've played Devil May Cry 1, 3 and 4. None of them held my interest long enough to finish (3 was probably the better though) Not played the remake but from what I've heard and seen it's a decent hack n slash. So it's a shrug of the shoulders from me.

Also on the subject of Dante, flip a coin. They're both insufferable pricks.

DmC: DmC 2 (ololo; dmc dmc dmc dmc...) *cough* Anyway, yea, I'd like to see a sequel to the reboot. The combat was maybe slightly easier, though good enough for me, and the characters were pretty much planks with cardboard faces on, but overall I liked it a lot. Let the old one go, go on with the new.

DMC5, duh. Fact of the matter is there is NOTHING about the attempted reboot that is any way better than Dante's escapades. The combat especially is a gigantic step backward and the fact that people were able to shatter the game with no issues was a grand display of poor game design. The enemies/bosses are also a complete joke, offering little variety and no challenge except for the artificial challenge of selective weakness. The game just doesn't work, especially its pathetic "platforming" sections which have no complexity or challenge to them. They're just glorified hallways used to pad the running time. If you want a decent hack and slash there are WAY more options. The DMC HD Collection, DMC4, God of War series, Ninja Gaiden Black and 2, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising, El Shaddai (if just for its AMAZING art direction. HOLY CRAP), The Wonderful 101, or even Onimusha are just far more competent in every aspect.

As for the story, I'm going to be blunt: it sucks. There are so many basic story-telling errors, leaps in logic, and things happening for no reason. DMC 3 and 4 were FAR more competent from a script and story-telling perspective. And that's before you get into how BORING the characters in NT's game are. They're just dull as hell when they're not being insufferable and none of their arcs make any sense. It's just a mess from a script perspective and it pretty much exposes Tam-tam for what he is: a talentless hack.

In all honesty though, we probably won't be seeing a sequel to the reboot. It completely bombed sales wise, was forgotten in a month when MGR came out, and nu-Dante failed to catch on to the point of being reviled. At worst the series is buried for awhile. At best CAPCOM is probably going to pretend the reboot never happened. Sweep it under the rug and let it be lost to the sands of time.

Devil May Cry 5 plz.

Everything was better in the first series then the second. If you're going to reboot the series give to a developer who knows what they're doing, Platinum preferably (a man can dream, can't he?)

It's funny how DmC's writing is ultimately a step down. The original's knew exactly how silly they were and wrote the game around incredibly cheesy action scenes, while DmC goes for edgy social commentary while occasionally stepping outside for some "cool" moments that seem to be right out of the mind of an emo 13-year-old boy.

I'd like to see Ninja Theory continue with the reboot, but it feels like the movie-type of reboot.

That is, they make it, then never do anything again with the alternate series, same with Tomb Raider.

There is quite a lot of potential in the new series though, from what little I played of it, it was immense fun, and I heard that the "new Dante being a douche" problem gets resolved at the end(?).

As much I hate to say it DMC2 for me. The original series while it excels at combat and level design was decent at best in other categories(story, characters). I feel the original series has no where to go. Loved Devil May Cry 4 as well as DMC but the new world interest me more. New Dante gets a unfair view. People talk about him being an asshole but two things 1) Original Dante - Just as big of an asshole No question. 2) He stops his no care view VERY Early in the game so I never saw the problem. I would love to see Dante fight the angels next as I got the feeling they never were on the up and up. While I loved the games and they have a part in my heart but the ham fisted acting and decent to poor storytelling have kept me from being a diehard fan.

5, just give Itsuno the time needed to actually finish it. I won't say the reboot was terrible, but I found it boring for the most part and some of the choices just perplexed me. It has less moves, weapons, styles, and features than 3, which came out about 6 years prior on the previous system which is just baffling. I also don't like the new Dante, old Dante was just more fun to me. I also don't get why people are praising the platforming in the reboot. Yeah, it's slightly better than previous games, but it's tedious, requires very little effort on the player part and adds nothing to the combat.

DmC: Devil May Cry 2

Cause I liked it, sure it has problems, like being way to fucking easy, a few 'Uncanny Vally' moments with Virgil, the demon designs needing help (but that's always been an issue) -.- some script writing decisions(I'm looking at you Succubus intro scene).

But it had the best story of all the games, the world presented was more interesting then what we'd seen prior, the characters then selves are also better then before, the ever changing land scape was also fun.

and do we really want more of Nero? Really? He's the 'Raiden' of DMC and unless they're gonna turn him into a 'Cyborg Ninja' at some point I could really do with out more of that whipped ***** thanks.(Seriously, DMC4 was pretty much JUST a about him finding his Girlfriend, the intro cut-scene is basically the whole story of the game)

Neither I would actually like Platinum to get the rights back to DMC (ok team little devils/angels) and so make a true DMC sequel not the mostly horrid games Capcom have been putting out after the original (ok 3 was wasnt terrible but I found it a chore to play by the end).

If I had to choose between those though I would say DMC 2 by Ninja Theory would be the better option the old Dante has been pretty much destroyed by every other game he has been in since the first one he just became a caricature of himself imo at least with the reboot he was remoddeled and they have a chance to stay true to his (new) design.

I have basically given up on DMC now 4 disappointing sequels is to much luckily Bayonetta was there to save the day and hopefully do it again with the sequel...if it ever frikkin comes out.

I'm impressed with how close the poll is. Given the absolutely awful marketing and the fact reboots are always going to leave someone feeling burnt, regardless of circumstance, I think this is actually a pretty good testament to Ninja Theory. Or a testament to how tepid people were with DMC4. Either way I would've expected DmC 2 to be slaughtered

Yeah I think I prefer the old Dante. Can't top this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK6UaPnRYcc#t=51]! (I don't know how you link videos in that window thingy)
EDIT: Totally forgot to include the actual words. If you want to embed a youtube video it's {youtube=PK6UaPnRYcc} but with square brackets. The letters are the bit that comes after ?v= in the youtube address.

I'd like a DMC 2 but with some major revision. Dante's look and personality has to be completely changed. Virgil is fine the way he is, especially after the expansion content. The Devil Trigger needs to be changed back into a demon form. It was just completely underwhelming in DMC.

As for the story, I'd really like the game to rescue Sparda in hell. Both Dante and Virgil should be playable.

Pretty sure he was saying DmC's hardest difficulty didn't measure up to DMC3's normal difficulty; not that DmC was hard... because yeah, it wasn't. As for Nero and his arm, he's Vergil's son. That's why Yamato reacts to him, no real explanation why his demon powers only manifest in his arm though. They had massive plans for DMC4 that fell through because of budget constraints, that's why Dante does Nero's adventure in reverse and the story seems scattered and unfinished.

Unless Vergil was like, ten years old at the time of conception, I find the idea of Nero being his son very unlikely.

OT: Devil May Cry 5 please, preferably in the hands of Platinum Games.

What they did to Vergil in DmC is just too angsty and crinGeworthy for words.

From cold badass to jealous brother with mummy issues.

DMC 4 was Itsuno's attempt at a DMC 3 sequel, and it only proved that they were in desperate need of fresh ideas. The writing is awful, the new character is a recycled Dante and even half the stages and bosses are recycled. They were so tied up to Dante that they make him a playable character for half the game.

Needless to say, I enjoyed DmC a lot more than DMC4, even when it was not perfect, it had more originality on one stage than DMC4 in the entire game. If the choice is between more Nero or more Dante in the new setting, its an easy one for me.

DMC 2, I played DMC recently and while I did find it too easy I also found it quite entertaining. When I think back to DMC 3 or 4 I think about frustration, repeating the same areas over and over and in the case on DMC 3 quitting the game because I didn't want to deal with the insane difficulty on a normal play through, or playing the entire stage from the beginning every time I died. Also the original Dante, well; he was a douche. He wasn't badass or cool, he was a red leather wearing emo douche bag at least the new Dante is just some hipster punk. Both new and old Dante are terrible characters but at least the new one has some redeeming qualities... Vergil on the other hand remains an asshole :/

DmC was an OK game, but was a COMPLETELY unnecessary reboot. I think they should just go the Prince of Persia route and go back to the original incarnation of the series. The sales numbers strongly indicate that the original incarnation was strongly preferred by more of the fans. For the simple pragmatic reason of wanting the series to survive, I hope they go back to the original, Coca-Cola Classic formula.

I wouldn't call PoP Sands of Time the original incarnation of the series. There were 2 2d platformers and a really bloody and hard, early 3D version before that.

You got me there. Let me reframe it as "previous, more successful."

At least DMC 3+4's writing knew it was awful and made fun of itself while DmC tries to take itself seriously
