My friend and I were having a discussion and we got to thinking. Which one of the many genre's really got us hooked on gaming? For me it was adventure games. Good old Monkey Island. Anyway. What genre did it for you? Feel free to tell us about the game and what you enjoyed so much about it.

wellllll... I can't remember if it was abe's odessey, Shadow Gunner or Future Cop: L.A.P.D. that got me into games.
probably none of those.
so It could be any platform.

Platform, the first game I played was Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. So that's the reason I play games today.

I can't remember if I first got hooked on Age of Empires or Golden Eye. I think AoE, so I'll say Strategy.

The first genre that truly interested me was RTS, good old Command and Conquer: Red Alert.

It wasn't the first genre by any means, but the games I played first bored me quickly (Mario, Sonic etc.), whereas I have always liked RTS.

While I had played plenty of games before (including a few Mega Man playthroughs and Super Mario 1-3), it wasn't really until played Civilization I and Dune 2 on our first PC (an intel 386 that had a whooping 4MB of RAM) that I got hooked.

So, strategy.

On the NES, Super Mario and Star Wars: both platformers. Also The Daedalus Encounter on Mac, which was a point and click adventure game. The usual for the early 90s.

When I was 9 I got my playstation and with it two games - Spyro the Dragon, and Rayman, which are both platforms and I've been hooked on gaming ever since ^_^

Definitely Platformers...The first one was "Alley Cat" from IBM in all its CGA glory. Then I remember that i desperately wanted to play Mario and as we only had a Amiga 500 at the time the NES hit the market, my father "organized" Giana Sisters so that i could play the game.Yeah pirating was nicer back then :)

Probably Platformers. I had the old Master System (second version) which had Alex Kidd built into it, I played that for hours. Also the few sonic games that came with it.

Platformers, easily.
It started with Sonic then moved on to Crash Bandicoot and Spyro.
I play a lot of FPS's now, so I always look forward to something with jumps in it. Most likely why I enjoyed Mirror's Edge.
