So I just found one of my old english assignments from elementary school. Its about the old story, called The Lady or the Tiger. Bassically we had to read the story, and then had to give our opinion on what we think would have happened.
The story in a nut shell is this: Very long ago this princess is in love with a young man from the village, (Note: these were very barbaric times) the two would see each other in secret untill her father finds out. So as punishment the young man has to go into this stadium of sorts, and chose one out of two doors. One door has a tiger, while the other has a woman behind it. If he gets the tiger he dies, but if he gets the woman he gets to marry her.
There is no way for him to know which is which. BUT, the princess managed to find this out, so she has to tell him which door to open, but if he gets the woman and lives he still won't be able to be with the her. So the big question is this, did the princess act barbaric like her father and send him to death out of jealousy? Or did he live and marry the lady? What do you all think?
(Here is the full story: http://www.eastoftheweb.com/short-stories/UBooks/LadyTige.shtml )
Edit: Read the story, he has no weapons, or anyway to escape. He has to choose.
