They weren't cheating but they weren't exactly going with the spirit of the game. I would have just quit, if its not fun, its not worth sticking around for.

So, at the time of writing this comment, there's only 3 votes for YES. That should pretty much sum it up right there. If strategy and skill is the only thing that separates you from them, it's most definitely NOT cheating.

If you can't counter them on a level playing field, that's your fault, not theirs.

Not cheating. Not even a dick move. People are allowed (and I'd even say are expected) to work as a team. That's fun for them. There's nothing wrong with making a plan and executing it flawlessly. It's like when my friends and I (most of us are part of a TF2 clan) play Dota together. People will complain about "pubstomping". But geez. We're just friends who wanted to play a game together. We do in-house CMs when we have enough people to fill two teams, but otherwise just go through matchmaking.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I'm not saying that they can't or shouldn't play with a team or coordinate. But to do it in the way they were was akin to having NFL players playing against High School players. It just wouldn't even be a competition. I think it would be fantastically fun to watch them use the tactics they were using with us against another clan in their same ranking. But I see it as cheating because they were essentially abusing the lack of ranking system.

Well, I've not play Halo 4 or any other Halo for that matter online so I don't understand the points that relate to that; however what I can say is that all team-based gamemodes in games like Quake, UT, Warsow etc require a hell of a lot of communication, co-ordination, co-operation, map knowledge and experience. Or at least they do, if you want to actually be good at them.
We've all had experiences of being completely curb stomped in games, and in all honesty I find that people are too quick to assume their opponents are cheating.

I don't quite understand why people are so upset at others who take the time to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the game they are playing and consider it something to be labelled as a "dick move", or even going so far as to consider it a form of cheating.
As I was explaining to someone else, I have zero problem with them being really good at the game because they spent the time to get to that level. What I do have a problem with is the fact they were using that level of skill against opponents that had no chance. And I wouldn't even have been as upset if it was a regular shooter match because there's more going on.

Grifball, in contrast, is literally a large rectangular flat room with zero obstacles. The idea is that the ball spawns in the middle and someone has to grab it and get it in the goal of the other team while the rest of the team defends the ball carrier. A lot like soccer/football. So like I said in the OP, their tactics were legit and would be expected in an MLG match, but against unorganized players, I feel it was exploiting the non-ranking nature of the game to easy wins.
