Doen pinguïns een helm dragen wanneer gaan skiën?
Klompen= Wooden shoes

Also the correct phrase would be ''Dragen pinguïns een helm wanneer ze gaan skiën?''
The answer is: Ja, tenzij ze het koud hebben, dan doen ze hem weer af.

Here comes the commentary of a proud Dutchman with a South-American background.

I will say, out of the countries I've been to in Europe, Holland in the nicest and if I ever get round to learning the language I wouldn't mind emmigrating over there.
First of all, thanks for the compliment and as for learning the language...don't. Seriously, compared to other languages Dutch is ridiculously hard and is full of meaningless spelling rules just for the sake of being there.. Also a fun fact, the "ij" as in belangrijk (important) is pronounced as "y", as in Why so complicated :p

...My German uncle though refers to Dutch as a bastardised form of German and apparently the two countries have a rivalry in football?
Yes, German and Dutch are quite similar, but it's not like I can can understand a full wave of German gibberish from a man from Berlin or something :D And also yes, Germany and our small country are big rivals in football. It was in 1974 that we lost the World cup final against the at the time West-Germans, and we are still bearing kind of a grudge :p :D

I've got a lot of respect for the Dutch, which comes from dealing with some awesome guys on this website.

Oh yes, love them lowlands! I lived there for five years and still miss it every now and then. It's easy to fit in the culture and Dutch people are a friendly lot.

I actually should go and visit my friends. And my faithful bicycle is still in Amsterdam... Cost me two whole euros that did.

I'm Dutch and loving it. Orange happens to be my favorite colour, so I'll go for that. And I'll thank everyone for their kind compliments for my country!

Ik heb het altijd grappig gevonden hoe belangrijk, of bekend, Nederland is over de hele wereld, terwijl het zo afschuwelijk klein is.

I´ve always thought it was funny how important, or well known, Holland is around the world, even though it is so awfully small.

If you wonder about the upper bit, it´s the middle bit in English.

The Dutch? The Dutch... Weren't the Dutch the ones that had an economic bubble based around diseased flowers?

So, what do I think about the Dutch? Prudent investment.

They're wooden shoes.

Also: Pinguins skiën niet. Ze hebben geen duimen en kunnen dus die kloteschoenen niet aantrekken.
What a beautiful language that has a single word for "damned shoes". Or so the internet tells me.

Right, the shoes. Well, it's the only option not sounding really similar to a German word of the same meaning so I was a bit confused with that.

And I find it shocking that I can't even trust Google to get my translations correctly!

We are a small country, but we are still quite important to the rest of the world.

Being American and therefore fat and stupid I dont think of the Netherlands other than "What isn't legal there?"

Don't care how you reply. You can say whatever you want. Topics may vary from soccer to the current economy.
always nice to see a fellow Dutchie :)

I think that The Netherlands is the best country in the world (as far as I'm aware), but then again, I may be slightly biased. Also, I don't think things have really gotten better the last couple of years.

I didn't vote in the poll, because I'm curious what foreigners think and I didn't want to taint the results. I always have the feeling that our importance may be slightly overstated in Dutch television shows and by our politicians, so it's interesting to hear other people about it.

Also, why are there no drugs in the poll? I don't think most people know that we are supposed to be known for clogs (wooden shoes), (wind)mills, tulips and even cheese and the color orange, but every damn foreigner I talk to mentions the legal drugs.

I find it quite funny how this topic went from: "Please non-Dutch people tell me what you think of the glorious nation of Holland." To: "Omg my country is awesome!"

That said, I do love being Dutch because I feel so much more free than in Spain and all the other countries I've been to.
The language is horrible though, don't even think about learning it.

Get your trailers off the Autobahn and we can talk. Or at least learn how to drive a goddamn car.

In all seriousness though, as someone who doesn't care about football I have no problem with the Netherlands.
Much to the contrary actually, as I've been there several times. Very nice country, especially the landscape, nice people (except the football fans)...
I could go on, but it will only sound like I'm quoting some tourist guide, so I'd rather not.

Oh, and your accent language can get a bit annoying at times. Just saying.

you forgot america. question: how the fuck can you be known for a colour? specifically orange? thats better than britain, who are known for rain.
dutch people are pretty cool though. i met one online on Halo 3 and he was by far the sanest person there (me included). interesting culture but when you make legal what most other countries dont, thats all youll be known for. shame.
