Poll: The Nintendo 3DS: worth it?

Recently I've found myself incredibly bored. To keep it short, I decided I want a Nintendo 3DS. However, the amount of money it will cost to get started with the system is steep.

As one who grew up with Nintendo and has a soft spot for Mario, Zelda, and the like, should I or should I not buy this system? My main hesitation not only being the money, but being severely disappointed and bored by Skyward Sword.

Note: Even though I have the bug of nostalgia, I'm not a fanboy for Nintendo. Feel free to rip the system, and the company, apart in your explanations. But please, give me a better reason than "Nintendo sucks."

At least wait until the next batch of actual games come out.
Alternatively, wait for the (rumored) Dual Analog model to be released.

Heh. I've seen the dual analog attachment. It looks ridiculous.

On another note, I'm not impressed with the 3DS titles either. I did have my eye on some regular DS titles as well, namely Spirit Tracks.

Also, the 1280x720 monitor on my computer along with a keyboard and mouse make me sorely long for a handheld gaming device.

Yeah, two good reasons to wait. Wouldn't rather have the version that has the dual analog built in? It's going to have to be much more natural feeling. And maybe by then the thing will have a half-decent library.

And multiply this sentiment by 1000 if you already have a DS of some kind.

Meh, for me its not at the moment. I'm holding out for Kingdom Hearts 3D amoung other things. I would hold off until the inevitable redesign which I would bet includes a second analog stick because that attachemnt looks very uncomfortable to use.

Even with the first party titles that have been released I would recomend waiting. I know I will be.

Voted: Possibly, if it had better games

If you don't own any (working) DS, I'd say it's worth getting the 3DS, as opposed to an earlier model and upgrading later.

If you already own a DS (fat, lite, DSi, XL, etc.), then I'd say to wait since I haven't really seen any 3DS game that's a must have. OoT and Mario were nice, but could live without.

Personally, my DSi bricked the last November, so I picked up a 3DS on launch day. I lament the lack of 3DS content, but I don't regret the decision to purchase it.

Yup, game selection is weak. I own 3DS, but no 3DS games. I got the 3DS for $170 and got the ambassador program. That's really the only reason I bought one.

Mario has intrigued me, but I can't commit. Give me more options.

I agree. While my short excursion with Super Mario 3D Land was quite fun, I couldn't help but view it as Super Mario Galaxy would have been if they landed on Planet Super Mario Bros. 3.

The 3DS will be worth it the moment one of the Monster Hunter series comes out thereon.

It has good games now, but no lasting library - no reason to keep pulling it out and playing it for months to come. That is what Monster Hunter will provide.

Of course, us (dishonestly cheating by grabbing it at wal-mart) "ambassadors" get 20-odd rather long, free games to go with the retail ones, so... more worth it to some than others.

I would just as soon wait for a PSVita and get one of those than pick up a 3DS. It seems to have far more features and a better head on its shoulders as of right now. Before shooting this down, look at the PSVita's list of launch window games. It's pretty impressive.

The Vita's is a normal launch to me, which is fine. The 3DS' launch was awful, one of the worst I've ever seen. It didn't just launch without good games. It's been almost a year now and there is one game that I'd want on it (Super Mario 3D Land. I love Ocarina of Time, but I already have it and have played it a dozen times over). Usually there's more games at launch for a console/handheld than the 3DS has a year later. Add in the second analog fiasco, and it just leaves me scratching my head. Why didn't Nintendo wait until it was ready? There's rushing a thing out, and then there's this.
