Initially I didn't find the Office funny at all, but having had a few months of working in an office myself, I now find it brilliantly funny. Haven't seen the US version yet, might get it for Christmas.

I'm a big fan of the US version-- my thirst for more drove me to download some of the UK episodes and I didn't find them funny at all. No one in the UK Office can really compare to Steve Carell.

The US version is ok. I get laughs out of it. But the UK one is way funnier. And I just feel awkward watching it FOR the boss because he's so stupid. Ahh...I think I might watch that tonight (I own the first season on DVD).

They're just different. After the first couple of episodes, the US Office wasn't trying to be the original, so it's almost unfair to compare them directly. Even though it made me cringe more than laugh, I gave my vote to the UK version. It's just like cover versions of songs: the cover has to be significantly different and better before you can comfortably consider it a better work of art than the original. The US one is different and just as good, but not better.
I've also found it quite difficult to directly compare the two shows. The trouble is a lot of people I know saw the US version first, and so expected the UK version to be a mirror of that series. I would say the comedic styles themselves are quite different.

The UK version seldom had me rolling on the floor, but that's not the point. The US version got more laughs out of me because its that blatant. Its straight-forward comedy. The UK version is the way it is because it doesn't behave like a sitcom. There's the point. Its written in such away that it doesn't follow sitcom plot lines. You could almost say its going for a more realistic feel.

With that in mind, I find the UK version a lot more interesting. The US version is a great show and I watch it every week, but I give my vote to the Britts.

I think that i don't enjoy the UK Office for the same reason that i found Curb Your Enthusiasm a bit 'meh': I don't like shows which make you feel uncomfortable and leave the comedy at that. Extras, for example, had that in it, but also had the caricatures of actors, the competitiveness of the extras, industry satire and the two main characters' relationship to keep me interested and amused. You can talk about 'straight-forward comedy' all you like, but the US version makes me laugh, whereas the UK version rarely did. I also find the characters in the former more compelling and likable.

... Just before clicking the 'post' button, I realised that this came off as a little confrontational. That's not how it was meant. Just putting my point across, but I still love you all. ;-)

I dunno. The idea of an uptight, right-wing woman settling down with second best (and it's clearly going to go wrong), I think it works. Should work out funny, too.

I was lucky enough to see the UK office before the US version was produced and given the nature of remakes I didn't give the US version the time of day. However, I have to say, after I gave it a chance I think it's really come into its own and dare I say: even surpassed its predecessor.

The question is: will they have the dignity to know when to quit (like the UK Office and Spaced)

Nope. I don't know whether it's about dignity or different creative visions, but they've added new and varying storylines 'cause it'll run until people stop watching.

I like the UK Office and I do not like the US Office.

I have watched all of the original and have only watched the first 2 episodes of the US one and some here and there when they were on television a few years back. After watching the first 2 episodes recently at a friends, I lost the ability to find Steve Carell's movies funny because when I see him delivering Ricky's lines that way.

That's said, for fans of the US version where is the point in the show where it becomes it's own show and they don't use the original dialogue?

Theyre different styles of comedy really. David Brent was just an unlikable bastard in the UK but in the US Micheal Scott wasnt a bad guy he was just a bit dumb.

Well I am in the US and Love the US version one of my favorite shows. I have only seen short versions of the British version and it's pretty funny from what I have seen. I do like British sitcoms like Are You Being Served?

Well considering the American show has been on for a longer time now I'd say that point has passed, I heard it was after the first season (American equivalent of British "Series").

I'm for the UK and at first I didn't like the US Office, because when I saw it the episodes were carbon copies of the British ones & the US actors seemed to fail at delivering the British script.

However, once the US version started doing their own episodes, evolving beyond the original story line, then I found it much funnier & I prefer it to UK Office.

It is now just more like a straight up sitcom, rather than a docu-soap, which is strange considering it's supposed to be the final, aired edit of a documentary.

How long is the film crew going to be making this documentary about the US Office? Sometimes people are aware of the cameras & give one to one interviews in a room, yet at other times everyone seems oblivious to the cameras, even the public (when the location moves outside the office).

Like in that episode when Dwight secretly met Jan in a restaurant to rat out Michael & try to get his job, so he brought a camera man & sound guy with him too?

It sometimes seems strange that the documentary crew are filming & recording events which would either be very difficult to shoot, difficult to sound record, or beyond the scope of the documentary & left out if the final edit.

I do prefer the US Office to the UK Original, but I enjoy Extras far more than both of them.

So would you or someone else suggest that I watch it from episode 7? I want to like the show and I find Carell funny from time to time but not when he's reciting lines.

Possibly you could try that but you may not like it I don't like Carrels movies and I don't think he could carry the show just on his own but it is his interaction with the rest that makes it funny imo.

The first/pilot episode is the only one to use the same script as the UK version. All the others are unique to the US version.
