I've been following Star Wars: The Old Republic for a while now and I find myself torn on what class I'm thinking of rolling.

Ideally, a player should be rolling whatever class they think they'd be in the Star Wars universe, but I have some concerns.

My main fear (mostly as a result of my WoW-experiance) is that one class on each side will be stupidly overpowered and everybody will just be spamming that.

Another worry is kind of lore-based, since in most SW media, non-force-users are mostly just a backdrop for the jedi/sith struggle. How are they supposed to be taken seriously for someone looking to immerse themselves in the story?

Mostly, though, I'm just curious. What are my fellow escapists thinking of rolling for the first time?

I'm either going to be a Republic Trooper or Imperial Agent first. Everyone will probably roll Jedi/Sith first because of the lightsabers and fancy-shmancy Force powers, so they'll probably be associated as the "noob" class. Also, the prospect of going toe to toe with them and emerging victorious due to superior military training and ingenuity is an enticing one.

I have to disagree. Some of the most influential characters in Star Wars have been non-Force users. Luke almost got blasted to atoms twice in the Battle of Yavin, but Wedge Antilles and Han Solo came to his aid. Han rescued him again when he was freezing to death on Hoth. Lando Calrissian and Wedge destroyed the second Death Star and lived to tell the tale. And remember, you ALWAYS let the Wookiee win if you want your arms to stay in their sockets.

They may not have lightsabers and flashy moves, but non-Force users are an integral aspect of any good Star Wars tale.

If I did plan on playing it, I'd go with Bounty Hunter, because Bounty Hunters in Star Wars are just plain awesomesauce!
Plus there's already gonna be a bunch of idiots jumping around everywhere with their lightsabers out (Don't mean that as a euphemism) breaking the immersion, I'd try not to contribute to that population.
And what better way to do that by being a suave heavily armed killing machine?
