The last few years, rythm-games have escalated from a niche to a genuine phenomenon.
In the sudden skyrocketing of popularity, the most notible aspect was the switch from a normal controller to several peripherals. Something that had already been existing in the arcades for a long time, but not yet in your own living room.
I'm talking, of course, about Guitar Hero, Rock Band, DJ hero and whatnot.
What is YOUR take on the matter?
Do you like this 'new wave' thing with a broad offer in peripherals, focussing on the titles mentioned above?
Or are you more the 'old school' type, still goin' on about Gitaroo Man, freQuency, Amplitude, PaRappa The Rapper and Vib-Ribbon?
Of course, you might also just hate them both, like them both or simply don't care.
Personally, I'm not a big rhythm game fan, but I totally got into Amplitude and freQuency. Got the most terrible of cramps in my index fingers and broke 1,5 controller over it (one of them is still working, a little bit), but I managed to get some sick scores. Those moments where your fingers surpass the information input/output of yours eyes causes such epic feelings...
I quit when the plastic guitars came out though. I bet it must be tons of fun when you're playing with friends or at a party or something, but it's simply nothing for me.
