Exactly what this guy said. I'm a full-on Minarchist. I've no idea where that falls on the political spectrum, mostly because I think the whole concept is ludicrous, but there it is.Onyx Oblivion said:Libertarian.

Minarchist, to be specific.

The reason the belt needs tightening is because of the tax reduction for the rich! The money that was given to the rich from the government which they had not had for 8 years previously suddenly had to come from somewhere so the country had to increase the deficit to account for the spending, both parties spend beyond their means but in general the democrats spending always seems to be helping the disadvantaged whereas the conservatives always seem to be helping the most well off and that is not the american dream of small town heroes who beat all adversity to become wealthy and happy, it sounds like a nightmare where there is a similar situation to england back when they were ruled by few and the remainder were treated as peasants and the crazy thing is that the poor seem to be damning themselves to this treatment.Generic Gamer said:There are things I don't necessarily need to spend money on that some other members of society do, I can save money by not paying a tax to subsidise those costs for others, jsut as they can save money by not subsidising what I need.Tipsy Giant said:But through tax we all share the financial burden and no-one has to be "poor" anymore.
why would you not want more tax for the rich? it's in your own interest
Taxing the rich makes perfect sense...if you're on the bottom of the pile. It's the 'politics of envy', make them pay for the poor because they deserve to have to. The problem with that is that overly taxing the rich removes any incentive to become rich in the first place. It removes the incentive to do better than baseline for yourself. Since the rich have a massive effect on society around them that's counter productive, why be a doctor if people will tax your pay back to the level of a receptionist? The other problem is that the rich create jobs and are the only people in the country who can afford to avoid taxes. If you overly tax the rich they'll move their assets overseas and not pay any tax at all, 20% of their income is better than 40% you'll never see.
Frankly the Conservative's raising of the minimum tax level helps the poor and their taxation policy is grounded in realism rather than as a method of social engineering. Right now we're on real belt tightening mode and that's unfortunately necessary.
Umm no, I am a Conservative despite being poor as hell because I'd rather work for my living than have it handed to me at the expense of those who have worked for it, and wouldn't want my own hard-earned money taken from me if I was in their position. There are greedy people on both sides, from Rockefeller to Al Gore and Steve Jobs, both Liberals. And on that note, the only poor liberals are the ones who are willing to give up personal liberty for "their" slice of the pie, only given to them for the purpose of securing their votes. I should know, my entire community is like this, including my girlfriend's family and my own parents living off of welfare and refusing to get jobs because they'd lose their government handouts. As I see it, would you rather work for a well-to-do boss or a boss as poor as you are? Think about this: why should he bother running a business if he would make just as much as an employee with less pressure?Tipsy Giant said:OT: I personally believe there is no such thing as a poor conservative, it's an oxymoron.
