Only time I ever watched a second disk was for Batman Begins. But that was amazing special features, and almost redeems the whole practice by itself. I'm not opposed to it, its just that very few movies are worth special features. I'd probably watch special features on the Inception, because I love watching that hallway spin.

If I just wanna watch the movie I download it for free, if however I fall in love with the film I will buy the special edition because I am honestly interested in what the directors mum had for dinner

Plus if you check out the commentary on Anchorman you will find the biggest argument for extras in history

Movies don't really cost any more than they did 10 years ago, AND they're trying to give me extra content for no extra cost. Those bastards...

Removing special features won't make the movie any cheaper. If you don't like the extra content, then don't watch it.
But there is extra cost. Otherwise the single-disc versions wouldn't be cheaper, now would they?

Second disc or extra content is always a winner for me.
I've seen all the family guy DVDs with commentary, watched the deleted scenes from Clash of the Titans (2010) and enjoyed hearing how Carl Urban genuinly smacked that guy off the horse in pathfinder.
If its a good movie and I see "Extra Content" on the DVD box, your damned right im gonna crack it open!

Also DVD extras can make a horrible movie even better to watch, for example, listen to DVD commentary for the first Twilight movie. Why? Because they genuinely thought they made a good movie!

I never use them, it's just a waste of material for them to constantly put them in.

Honestly, Tredicim, I completely agree with you. The movie is the meat of the DVD in my eyes, and I'm not actually into keeping them like keepsakes. My DVD collection is very small and most of it are gifts from other people. I only like watching a movie once, maybe another time if I have a question about something I saw in it. That's just my personal preference but nice to see I'm not alone in feeling that the bonus DVDs are extra crap I don't care to see.

There was a time when I was really interested in how they did something in a film. Now, though, the "How they did that" is almost as sensationalized as the movie itself. It doesn't seem as special for every film to come with its own documentary. Most of the time, I feel like they're just using them as added trailers to entice you to see the film, rather than answers to questions I really have.

You do realise you've just admitted to watching that, and more than once!

Well it certainly would be worse for the environment if you start having two versions of releases think of all the plastic and now there will be three discs out there instead of just two. But aside from that I don't see what the big deal is I actually get a little annoyed when there are no special features on a DVD aside from trailers for movies that I've already seen. A DVD release is actually pretty weak if it doesn't at least have a commentary because you can only watch a movie so many times before it gets old and you start to wonder how they did an effect or something like that. I don't think there needs to be a whole other disc for special features because you could probably squeeze the commentary and deleted scenes into one disc if the studios tried hard enough.

II only watch them if I liked the movie and they have some deleted scenes. It's always interesting to see what they cut out

Special features are the only thing that make buying DVDs a better option to me than renting them.

I think it's a waste of money because mostly it's just a glorified advertisement for a game you already have, and a bunch of game developers talking about how great they are for making this game. Sort of like paying for the right to indulge their egos....

Like everything there are exceptions, like for the first "Blazblue" game the extra disc in the limited edition did actually have some pretty good, and fairly practical game tips for people who had never one 2D fighters before. The whole "Teach me boobie lady" thing.

For the most part though, a "making of DVD" is pretty much a non-factor. For me to be interested in a collector's edition it has to include stuff other than that, an art book I'll look at once or twice, and/or a soundtrack CD for a game that might not even have music I like.

Ironically the little hardback they created for "Alan Wake" with some of "his" fiction in it and a lot of backround material, was to me a worthwhile thing when produced at that level. More so than the "bonus features" disc (despite the Avatar rewards). All nerd factor aside, I've also gotten use out of things like the Messenger Bag from the RE5 Collector's edition.

I don't mind them, I don't watch them 'cos they ruin the film for me.

I am not one of these people who get lost in films, books, games etc but I do like to think saw actually happened (I need help, I know), watching bonus features were they say, "the big swinging axe is actually made out of cardboard .... here it is without the paint" makes me die a little inside, while thinking "awwww".

What I hate is the trailers for other films before the main menu that you can't skip, FUCK OFF!, if I had any interest in the film I would buy it. (I collect films and all the ones I like I buy)

I honestly couldn't care less about bonus features for most films. Includes bonus features on disk 2: great - it's probably going to collect dust in its case.

I love the bonus features. You can learn a lot from them. Some of the things are very interesting.

Some of them have useless trivia that you think you'll never need, until that awkward silence you have with a friend. Then you bring up the fact that 1 guy was given all the set pieces and props from the Alien movies, and the fact that he now has a giant anamatronic queen alien head, and suddenly you have a conversation.

It constantly gets on my nerves that I, most of the time, can't just go into a store and buy the movie I want to watch without being landed with an extra disc full of so-called special features
Buy used from video stores! They always get stripped-down editions which movie buffs get pissed about, but you would apparently love.

Studios have started as of a couple years ago making single-disc-editions pretty much just for video stores. It's much cheaper to make a lot and sell them.
Yeah? That's a thought - I've not been to a video rental place in years! (I don't even know if there are any in my city...)

Although it does mean waiting for the films I want to be put on 2nd-hand sale by them :)
But there's so much to watch in the mean time! What haven't you seen that you want to have seen?
Or, there's always Transporter 2 again.
