I just know I?m going to get both the moral and immoral people mad at me for that title, but I don?t care.

So I play what I would call a good game (enter good game here). I spend the countless of otherwise productive hours on said game. After enjoying the story, graphics, gameplay, or anything else that makes it good I beat the game. Yay me

It?s after this that I normally play the game a second time, though it's this time around I have earned a reason to use cheat codes. Of course makes the game easier and sometimes more fun because the computer that gave me such trouble is getting owned.

Now here is my problem. On SOME games using cheat codes the second time makes it far less enjoyable, not allowing me to complete the game even though I would get through it much faster. So in YOUR opinion why would you not be able to complete the game the second time?

Is it because it?s now too easy and lacks the challenge of your first time, or is it because you?ve gone and beaten it already leaving no new surprises?

Probably because the sense of achievement is removed, so all you are left with is the repetition of the game. I use cheats, only when I have finished the game first, and mainly so I can buy all the pretty and expensive things.

Honestly it's a bit of both. You have some fun playing through with the cheats but unless I really have a purpose for playing through completely for a second time (it being a brilliant game, cheats or not, counts as a reason) then usually I find I'll lose interest or just migrate to another game. Hence I think you should add the option of both reasons to your poll.

Good point. Too bad I can't really change it. Another thing I like is some games that are really hard even with cheat codes. Like Sacrifice for example.

Since most games I play seem to base their difficulty in figuring out how the underlying gameplay mechanisms work (be it puzzle solutions, upgrade paths to choose, or even simply when to jump), second playthroughs seem to be a lot easier even without cheats. So I usually only go for full seconds when the game offers different storypaths to follow.

I'll do a playthrough if the cheats interest me as much as the game does.

Remember the exploding Tomb Raider cheat? Doing that on all the different locations was, for the oddest reason, a heckload of fun. =]

Agreed, otherwise they are exactly what they're named; cheats in order to further yourself of the game. Besides losing the sense of accomplishment, it's also weak to just plug something in to resolve your problems.

Well in the intrest of platformers and RTS games using cheats could be a lot of fun. Either doing something you aren't suppose to, or building up a massive force.

I would have to say that there is just nothing new. IT may be fun for a couple of minutes, hours if you're lucky, but then the novelty of the cheats wears off. In my experience, even if I'm replaying a game without cheats, I have to wait at least several months before I can enjoy the game again, and not just play it again. I have to forget how to play and what happens, so that I can be surprised again later.

For some games, it's the surprise that creates suspense and enjoyment in a game. Take Bioshock for example. I bought it for the 360 and the first time was absolutely amazing. I enjoyed every bit of it.

The second time I tried it on hard. Other than the opponents being more difficult, it's not that interesting. I know where the enemies are and how to handle them. There's no excitement in getting new plasmids because I already know when I get what, and what it does. I know how to handle certain enemies and how the puzzles work. That doesn't make it less of a game. It's supposed to be played once and you should always judge a game on your first playthrough because everything's new, fresh and the way it's meant to be done.

I already sold Bioshock by the way, but I knew it was a real singleplayer game. I bought it, with the intention to sell it again once I finish it and am done playing around with it on harder difficulties.

Bought it, played it, traded it for another game the day after saying it didn't run.

I've gotta say though, the only games that keep me re-playing are the strategy games and online first person shooters. Like battlefield or ET:QW. Single player games get boring for me, since I play them on hard first time, and scour the map looking for goodies.

I dunno, maybe I should take the games more slowly?
