I remember a thread like this one when the ads first started, a bunch of people posted having ad-blocker and got banned it was pretty humorous.

that just doesnt seem right? so in the end they really chose money over the loyal fans who helped them get where they are? god... this place is becomming something im not sure i want to be a part of anymore, theyre surprised we dont want to watch the adds? i also dont want to pay for something ive always gotten for free for the past year... son i am dissapoint...

I don't think it was the using of ad-blocker so much, but the blatant promotion of it.

also people have the right to promote pieces of software they find usefull so long as its not malicious, why shouldnt they? the ads arent something i watch anyway it would be useful not to have to alt tab everytime i open an episode though so any1 who can point me in the direction of nething similar for chrome would be appreciated, i have firefox but pref not to use it outside of webdesign things.

Chrome has the same "ad removal extension" as Firefox, all up and working great. Of course, I couldn't possibly endorse a useful browser extension on here as that's apparently a bannable offence XD

They're not choosing money over their fans. As a fan, shouldn't you be more supportive of the site that offers you all this stuff for free? They don't have to upload these shows for you. The least you can do is sit through a few seconds of advertisements.

Even if a few savvy people do block the adverts, denying the direct revenue stream, the site still receives the traffic, and more traffic surely means higher-value ads. So there's still an element of contribution.

OT: 15 seconds of your life will not kill you, OP. Just watch the damn thing. It's a source of revenue for the site, and if everyone's like you, the site will probably close down.

Ok so, been here a while but was forced to take a rather long break while i moved country then house job etc, i knew adds were comming into it but i had no idea how bad it would be, now im just wondering if im the only 1 who is smart enuf to time the adds, so next time it pops up i just mute my sound and switch to a thread or summin in one of my other tabs then come back when its done, i mean does any one else actualy WATCH them? and also are they ALL for that stupid prince of persia film?

I watch the ads. Most of the time, unless I know there's something else to get done. That's because I know that advertisement is one of the ways that The Escapist makes money. I am happy to support the Escapist making money but too lazy to pay for the site myself. If there were no ads, the Escapist would make less money, which would mean lower quality results, which would be no fun.

IMO, that's how I look at the situation.
