I'm not an overt fan of romance, especially the kind targeted at teenage girls.
Which is probably reasonable given my gender and age.
Aside from that, I've read one of the Twilight books and I find the writing style rather lacking. What's her name is not a very good author.
Aside from those complaints, I've got nothing against her vision of vampires. Vampires are fictional creatures, and the only thing you absolutely have to have to be a vampire is drinking blood. Hell, even that has exclusions. I've got nothing against sparkles.
Frankly, if Stephanie Meyer was a good writer, it would be interesting to see vampires explored from more emotional side. Alas, she isn't a good writer.
People trying to push completely pre-made stereotypes in fantasy should just shut up. I'm as sick of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings clones as I'm sick of wanna-be Dracula's and shit. Be creative, there's only one or two traits in most fantasy creatures you absolutely have to have. Dwarves are short. Vampires drink blood. Were-anythings turn into whatever, under some conditions or whenever they please. Everything else is your own imagination.
