This may sound a bit weird, but I'm working on a story (or at least, a subplot of a story) wherein a revenant marries a living human. In my story, a revenant is a kind of sentient undead who more or less looks exactly like a regular person.

How would you react to such a situation... a "technically dead" person seeking your affection? Would you marry? Have sex? Respectfully turn down? Or break out the silver weaponry?

Do they get cool "undead powers" like in World of Darkness? Possession, telekinesis, walking through walls...

In your story, do Revenants get the same rights as living humans? Do they still count as legally dead? Are they well known by the public or is it something only a few people know about? Would I know they were undead?

Also, at the risk of sounding stupid, is the Revenant in their own body, someone else's body, or a new body that is "made" for them when they come back (some kind of ectoplasm deal)?

These are all factors that may affect my decision. I see this as genuine proof that, at five in the morning, I need sleep.

Depends. Is she still rotting, and is she cold like most corpses? If not, then maybe try dating for a bit I guess.

as long as there is no Decomposition and she isn't EXTREMELY cold then im down. also im assuming she has Free will. if she didnt then no lol. Dead girls need love to lol.
No decomposition... although some blue mist might puff out of any open death-wounds in the case of a brutal demise.

It's hard to ask a question like this because one cannot really imagine being in a position like that. No matter what people will give you as an answer, they might act different if it comes to making a true decision.
For me? Here, sitting in front of my PC, I'd say why not (actually, a billion reasons come to my mind, but those might not stop me). But as I stated, it's impossible to really tell.

BTW, the situation sounds like Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy, you American cunts!) to me. Have you been inspired by that? :p

Revenants are people who died (most likely killed), but before their soul could pass on, a necromancer "glued" their soul back to their body, allowing them to "live" once again. Most revenants are servants of necromancers, be in on account of "debt" or not knowing how to sustain themselves without outside help. Those who overcome these obstacles manage to gain their independence, although they typically hide their undead nature for fear of persecution, revealing it only to those they trust.

Never played it, so no, it had no influence.

Personally I would bash the damn zombie's skull in with a rusty spork is one would ever try to get in range of my arms.(read: run away screaming like a little girl)

The plot sounds a bit similar to Generation Dead [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Generation_Dead] though. Not very similar but that was (unfortunately) the first thing I thought about.

Yeah, hell, why not. In fact, I hope she's got the whole "chill of death" thing so I can huddle up to her on a hot summer's day to cool down! If she isn't a complete twat and is reasonably hot (I'm not picturing women revenants in your story being total mingers :p), then sure. I'd probably use my ability to be impressed by shiney things to enjoy the blue mist thing until the day I die! :D

Also... She'll always be as hot as the day you met her. That's gotta be a plus.

Then you're kind of doing it wrong. If anything, pallies are supposed to be the good guys. They are supposed to be about all the good stuff, y'know? And not racism, although I can't say it's the right word in this case.

If the undead is sentient and by nature "good", then there is no difference between paladin killing it and paladin killing another paladin. Which, I assume, by some kind of rules would probably take away the offending paladin's powers or some shit.

It's just that undead are too often associated with generalized "evil" - and I disagree with that notion - in fiction, so it might seem like th same thing.
It depends on the God and order you worship/belong too. And I seem to recall a lot of them considering the undead to be abominations. And pallies don't question the church, do they?

Also, I'd like to say, your title seems pretty strange considering your idea for the story.

When someone is giving a marriage vow or whatever that stupid shit is, they say "Until death do us part" which basically means "Lady/chump, I'll be with ya until you die, but afterwards, don't expect me hanging around your corpse and not banging someone else"

Now your story, as far as I can understand, has everything to do with a relationship between a living human and an undead creature. How exactly can "Undeath" do them apart? She is already undead. If anything, this title would work better for some kind of a romantic story set within ye olde generic zombie apocalypse where when something dies, it almost certainly turns into a zombie, and when it does, people have to shoot its brains out.
Yeah, I realized that after I posted the topic. I just thought the title sounded good.

Yes if and only if i felt so strongly that i would die for them and even then that's like 1.5% of me actually doing it

That's a tough one that raises all kinds of moral and ethical questions. But I assume that if I felt strongly enough for that person I would marry and consummate. Or maybe just consummate... all night long... okay, okay, I admit that was bad.

But I guess I won't actually know the answer to this question unless I was placed in such a situation and I doubt that's going to happen anytime soon (at least I hope not).

crap I thought this thread would give me another chance to be self righteous on the internet........................ah well

anyways if she doesn't look like a zombie (doesn't smell like a zombie or in any sense of the senses relate to a zombie) then I guess. Call me shallow but it might end up as a shotgun wedding (so to speak) if she looks like a shuffler (not purposely just if she startles me)

That's one of the main problems I have with Pallies and just anything god-related in D&D and similar games.

If you try to be anything close to "good", you end up not being a paladin. Being "good" seems to be the same as being a self-righteous racist asshole, on many occasions.

True Neutral for the win =D
I agree with you. I just put that idea into my pallies (I usually just play with the same one in tabletop) so he wouldn't be some generic do-gooder. Which is interesting, because one of the guys I play with likes to be a necromancer. In summary, SMITE THE *****!! is what MY pally would do. Sorry if I was unclear.

Soo... What you're saying is they are pretty much just a normal person, only "technically dead"?
I don't really see the issue, here.

... There is probably something horribly wrong with me, isn't there.

This question could be rephrased "Would you marry or bang a person whose body temperature is always pleasantly cool?"
