If you had the power to go back in time (as far back as you like) would you do it?
Keeping in mind possible paradoxes, lets not forget the lessons of 'Back To The Future' now :)

EDIT: You also have a one time chance to return to the present day, with whatever alterations you made in the past still applying. After that, no more time-travel for you :p

Depends, am I able to only move backwards and forwards through time, or am I able to move freely through both time and space, I have no real interest in going back in time to find myself stuck in a tree or something...

HAHA I see your dilemma. OK, You have one chance only to come back to the present day, after that there's no more time travel for you.

I don't believe in paradoxes.

I think any time travel to the past has already hapenned and you can't change anything even if you try.

Hmm depends, would I be able to travel back to the present? And what about the future? Also the time and space question Dys asked.

Stephen King's 'The Dark Tower' Series presents a rather unique view of time travelling.

Although he never comes out and says it, he paints the view of a society where they became so technologically advanced they used time travel as a toy, using it like we would international travel nowadays.

They had travel to 9/11 to watch the Twin Towers come down, the Colloseum, heaps of events like that in history which is a unique take on the concept.

The time paradox thing is interesting. If you're going back in time, does that mean you actually existed at that point? It's a curious concept.

Why would anyone want to go back in time? If you change things there, you feel the effects. If you go forward in time, however, then you can do whatever you want, even bring back some new technology from their time and declare that you invented it. This change would not affect your time period, but the n00bs in the future's.

i think it would be neat to go back and see certain things happen, tho changing things would be a bit bad, tho you simply being there would change things

If playing the Prince of Persia trilogy has taught me anything (apart from fun ways to defy the laws of physics), it's that fucking with time is NOT worth the trouble. I say no, I would not time-travel, not for fun or curiosity...I'm such a buzz-kill XD

I would go back into time and do lots of crazy shit until I fuck everything up and kill us all some how. Also I would beat the shit out of Hitler and Stalin!

I'd go back in time, kill Hitler, return to see how it all turned out, and if things are still okay, I'd do the same with other tyrants :D

Now this begs to ask the question, what effect does time traveling have?

Do your actions make the universe branch off into an alternate universe from the point to which you travel to or does history start to rewrite itself from the moment you arrive?

Or does the effect just cancel out because logistically, if you went back and changed the past, it would already be changed in your time. This means that whatever you did was set in stone and the universe already knew you were going to do. This makes any improvements to history impossible, and makes time travel a waste of time.

Either way, tampering with time is something that while being fun to do, could be a slippery slope with unpredictable results. I would best leave history as it is and deal with the POS world as we know it.

Bloody hell, what's with all the time travel threads today? Anyway, I would travel back in time, but it's not like I'd be able to change anything. I explained why about an hour ago in another thread, but I'll do it again.

I need two perspectives to explain this, I'll just call them A and B. A is the person just before they went back in time, B is the person after they've gone back in time. If B went back in time to last week, that would mean that in A's reality, in his last week, there were two of him wandering around, since it's in the past. Therefore, anything B does will have no impact on A's time, because B would already have been around during A's time.

It's much easier to explain if I'm not typing it.
