Have you seen Titanic? If so then I have a paragraph and another question for you.

Titanic is the highest grossing film at the moment, it made 1.7 billion (I think), and because of this, everybody I know hates it. They can't give me a straight answer to exactly why they hate it but it's probably because it wasn't there type of movie and it's over-hyped, or something along those lines.

I haven't found anybody who likes the film, so my question to you is: Did you like Titanic? If you did or didn't, why? Just curious to see what my fellow escapists opinions are.

I reckon it's a great film, romance isn't even my cup of tea but I believe it pulled it of very well, I was entertained the whole way through. I find everything in Titanic well done and the ending to be one of the most epic and saddest I have ever seen.

I saw it a few days ago. It was OK, but I hated the romance part. Rose says "Jack" 80 times. That was annoying.

The way you phrase this, it seems like you're talking about the actual ship RMS Titanic, which the movie is based on. The movie's just called "Titanic", no "the".

I think it's a great movie, personally. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the best movie ever, like some might, but it's definitely up there in the top ten. And yes, I too am a sucker for that damn song.

I don't like romance movies. It was marketed as a romance movie. Therefore, I never saw it and never will.

I do like the Poseidon Adventure though! A classic piece of cinema, that.

Mmmm, Winslet

Anyway, ive heard that most females enjoy the first part more, while males tune in when the berg hits. At least that was near true for me

my problem was watching this movie before developing romantic emotions.(me being six)

but it was a very good movie, and god in no way over-rated. average is not a synonym to over-rated!

I always ignored it cuz it was a romance, and not a funny romance or actiony romance, basically a rmance (so I thought).

However its on telly right now (same for the OP perhaps?) and I'm finding I actually like it, all the different reactions of the people so close to death, desperation, calm, pure fear, its very enlightening.

I also always hated it because it got best movie instead of Star Wars, though now I see why, its deeper than just simply:

Oh Jack
Oh Rose
Oh shit
Bang
Cry
THE END

I remember watching it a LONG time ago with my mum. The only bit I found saddening was the part where you see all the people who died on the ship.

Then I remembered this;

Someone's Australian, I turned the TV almost immediately and decided to read comics instead, it's now almost 2am so maybe not the best idea.

Gonna have to stop you there, that's a classic cause and effect flaw, as The Dark Knight has proven, a film can make a fuckton of money and still be loved, meaning that the money a film makes has no bearing on how people think of it.

I hated the film, not because it made money, but because it was shit. Not my genre, didn't like the actors, general disinterest.

Not necessarily. It could be the money a film makes has no impact on public opinion provided box office takings are below a billion. It's not going to be a purely inverse linear relationship, otherwise a film that makes no money (or next to none) is the greatest film ever made. Personally, I like Waterworld, but not that much.

And "Not my genre, didn't like the actors, general disinterest" do not make a movie shit. I didn't really care for the romance plot, but it's a damn pretty film. It was pretty unashamedly boat-porn. The romance plot was just there to give the actors something to do whilst the audience admires the pretty pretty ship.

LOL

I'm not lying when I say this.

I told this one girl I cried during the titanic, and she gave me her phone number. Granted, I didn't actually cry, but I'm so clever ^.^

OT: I thought it was pretty good. I don't see what got it the highest grossing film in history, but what else?

There's no universally shared opinion on anything, my saying it was shit means *I* thought it was garbage. Yeah, for what it's worth, the boat looked gorgeous, but it just had nothing else going for it for me.

I liked it but being a production geek I'm a bit biased. The set, the costumes, the effects all came together really well to make the film and while it's not my favorite from Mr. Cameron I did really enjoy the movie.

No, you saying it was shit is you saying it's shit, that is something objective. You saying you don't like it is your opinion. You made an objective statement ("It's shit") and then backed it up with things that are entirely subjective (Not your genre)

Well, it can't be the worst movie ever, considering how well it has done, but it's not my cup of tea.
