Among the posting conventions that drives me nuts is the idea that people will leave a note at the end, basically TLDR, with a one line summary of the text they've been posting. Of course, posting just tldr yourself is a warning-able offense, but even then it's like saying "I came into this topic for some reason, and now instead of bothering to follow through, I'm just going to skip it."
Sure, some topics can be misleading, but for the most part it seems to me that there's no reason for it. It encourages people to be lazy and not even attempt to learn anything, usually resulting in misunderstandings, and it implies that you could have simplified your entire story to a blurb, or in other words, you didn't have that much to say to begin with and your words are all fluff. I mean, I'm sure people don't use it that way on purpose all the time, but it just often feels like it is an unnecessary concept that gets in the way of effective communication and worthwhile discussion.
Have you ever felt like this? Or have you found times when people leaving such a note was actually helpful?
Just some late night ramblings I suppose, but perhaps it's something worth thinking about.
