Anyone that this was thrust upon would immediately be changed so drastically that they wouldn't be the same anyway. Suddenly having the power to crush or create worlds with a thought and being connected to everything would possibly drive any human insane in the blink of an eye.
No man could take that much power and not corrupt, except jesus obviously. I mean, why be benevolent when you can control everything? ever play a god game? how long is it before you start killing everything for the hell of it? You'd go insane.
The idea that any of us are remotely qualified to be gods is the height of arrogance. We screw up enough shit without god-like power.
Honestly? No.
Reason being, is that while this world is FAR from perfect and peaceful, the prospect of what the world could be if there was a 'bored deity' could be so much worse. As Humans, we are capable of rational thought, looking for spiritual or scientific answers for our problems. If there was a 'Visible God Figure', any decision they made would come under scrutiny by others, and depending on how much of their own humanity they retain through their ascension, they could either roll with the punches or fight fire with fire.
While the prospect for a 'perfect world' is nice, the consequences could be disastrous in the long run I think. So, while this world isn't anywhere near perfect, I at least know what to expect from it.

Yes I would, I believe that there is nothing supernatural or spiritual about the universe and I think that is a damn shame. Maybe if I allowed this God to come to being magic and more importantly miracles would truly be possible.
I want to say No. I just can't see any person being fit for a job of such power. While I would, of course, take the job if offered - I would be a horrible candidate for it as would everyone else.
As humans, we have absolutely no idea what infinity entails. I think that someone could do a good job for a while; but what happens after 500 years? 500 million years? Eventually, barring the absolute perfect being, whomever we choose as god is going to get tired of living forever. I can only imagine what would come after our god gets bored.

No, there would be no human who would be an acceptable candidate. We're a greedy selfish and generally horrible species. Besides, think of the psychological damage that person would receive. Completely isolated. No consequences of actions that would affect them. Nothing to stop them doing bad. Hated for letting bad things happen, not acknowledged when stopping them happen. Having to be the sole judge of what's good and bad for everyone. Having to balance freewill and intervention. The list goes on. If it wasn't for the eternity-in-hell bit, I'd feel sorry for God.

I'm reminded of a saying "Absolute power corrupts absolutely". By that I mean it's a really bad idea to give this kind of power into the hands of a human. And while I wouldn't mind a bit of godly power to do some... things, I really don't care for the whole omniscience thing. Infinite knowledge is infinitely boring, if you know what I mean.

That person would start off all benevolent and kind but would start to go insane, suffering from Megalomania (Believing itself to really be omnipotent and omniscient) and Xenophobia (It's bigotries that most people suppress will start to show) and start using it's powers for entertainment purposes or to assert it's will.
To draw examples from monotheism's that person will start forcing people to obey it to feed it's overinflated ego. People who don't, well if you've ever read a religious text (from cover to cover not the few passages that religious figures use to package their religion for sale at the spiritual marketplace) you'll get the gist of it. It may even be able to effect free will by altering brain chemical makeup meaning it would be the most disregardful of human rights ever. That god may start exterminating people based on sinister race myths or nationality.

... No one that's ever cursed, used a vulgarity, been violent, aggressive, hurtful, demeaning, insulting, false, lied, killed another, used another, manipulated another, betrayed someone, thought of themselves above others, smoked, drinked, done drugs, thought anything bad...

No, simply because I do not have the foresight to see where it would go. I am the type of person who would not go back in time to kill Hitler, not because I liked Hitler. No, it is because we were able to stop Hitler and with time things got a lot better. Who knows how things would end up without Hitler. Maybe the world would have encountered a Hitler type who we would not be able to stop.
I guess my point is, let's progress, but let's not get crazy. There is no need to go kill Hitler, and there is no need to create a god. The world is not perfect, but it has been getting better for a long time now, so we are doing things right, maybe not fast but still headed in the right direction.
I would however be in favor of gradually creating an all knowing AI construct a la Deus Ex, go play the game or read the plot to know what I mean. Basically the AI, would direct the world, direct us personally, but would not dominate us, and would still allow us to make our own choices. We would still be us as individuals, but still connected as a whole.
