Poll: To make a God.

Instead of having me be there to judge,I get one of my friends to switch clothes with me and then they would elect me as a God (because they would believe I was electing my friend) and therefore I would cheat the system to become a God.

As a God,I would solve all the world's problems and kill some people every now and again to entertain myself so I don't go insane.

Hmm. No. Why? Simple - human beings are fecies. Every and each one of us. Really, think about it, we are all, without exclusion, selfish, self-centered bastads. It doesn't matter how kind-hearted, or giving, or generous, or non-selfish you are, in the end of the day, it's all about YOU, or rather ME(from your, and everyone else's perspective). So, granting the ability to insta-kill every single person on this planet with a simple thought to someone... I don't think so. It's a good thing we live in a godless world, because if we didn't, and we were all subjected to the whims of some guy/girl/thing who's bored out of it's pants by knowing every single thing in the universe... Well, it'd be safe to assume we'd be far worse-off. "Oh, but he/she'll cure all the diseases in the world bloopy bloppy blahby pants-face" - Yeah, at first. But what then? He/she'll just make some new ones up, just for the hell of it, and blame them on the devil, or some bollocks. Really, it's better-off living in a world where you're nothing more than a life form on some floating peace of rock in the middle of nowhere(like our current one), than living under the dictatorship of some being. To put it simply: Can you imagine living in a Socialist country? Point made. It's the same thing, really.

Another question. Many say "why not me"? Good question.

Would you abuse the power? No? Then why do you assume someone else would. Are you the only non corrupt person in the world? Would you expect others to see yourself as you do?

In responce to that, I'd like to point out that while I cannot claim to know, infallibally, the moral integrity of others, The strength of my own morrals and conviction I have a very good measure of. That surety is what would set me as a better candidate than others I could think of.

But in the ENTIRE worlds eyes you are to them what they are to you. An obvious abuser of power who will definately be corrupt. That reasoning is circular. Why would they trust you? Tell me you wouldnt abuse it. Everyone seems to quote this "power corrupts" thing EVERYWHERE and yet refuse to accept they would abuse it as certainly as everyone else.

Oh I'm not saying I wouldn't be corrupt, or that others don't see me ass corruptable. All I'm saying is, from the knowledge I have of myself and others, I'm the only one I can be confident in my judgement of. For all I know, the good I see in others could be a facade, while I would know if I was faking or not. See what I'm saying?

The reasoning may be circular, but the OP did state that I was chosen for my supposed objectivness. Wouldn't that be a quality in my favor aswell?

As an impartial judge I would say that I must know the location of the secret god giving super power thing so I can protect it from everyone. Then I take it for myself, instantly become god, and edit the OP so that I can choose myself and as such was in the right.

I would give up my freedom right now in a heartbeat.

Like in the original post, it would up to our pick, and i would pick someone i think to be very level headed who wouldn't interfere unless absolutely needed into peoples lives, i wouldn't pick a control freak who needs to enslave everyone.

The problem with that is you can't possibly know what a person will do with infinite power until you give it to them. We aren't talking about the power to just stop a war here or there, we're talking about the power to create everything in YOUR image of perfection, and I bet you everyone's image of perfection is different. Besides what do you consider to be necessary enough for God to interfere with?

while that is true, like i said i'd pick the person who is fearful/least likely to use it (and yes you once again can say you never know what they'll do, but if logic dictates anything i'd pick someone decent enough) so they would intervene when it truly meant the sway of millions of lives, not taking away everyday personal freedoms.

and while my idea of necessary might not be right, i'd hope the person would just stop global atrocities from happening (such as tsunami's, massive earthquakes, massive wars, etc..) and spend the rest of their time being a freelancer (going to a hospital and having everyone by a miracle cured with no one knowing it was "god", have them go to a 3rd world country the next and have their harvest grow extraordinarily amazing, etc..)

while that is a nice quote, and i understand it and don't necessarily disagree with it, looking for the worst in every single being on the planet seems to be of the agenda to you, so i'm just going to drop it, as you must live around horrible people if you are so dead set on never giving someone the power to do superhero like things.

That quote has nothing to do with being surrounded by horrible people or seeing the worst in everyone. It is about recognizing that no one person is so perfect that each person has the capacity to make mistakes. Give someone power over everyone else and not only do you alienate that person to the extent that you make them feel better than everyone else, but you also make anything they do have for whatever reason they do it affect literally the entire universe. You, this God, and I, we all don't share the same view of a perfect universe and give unlimited power and being told to "make things better" will lead to each of us producing very different results and arguably quite a few "mistakes" in the minds of everyone who does not share our view.

I would not recommend any human to become a God. If that were to happen then that human would most likely try to blatantly correct every single mistake and then we could become too reliant on that person.Thats one thing that instantly came to my mind when I saw this topic.

It's quite possible that slavery while not ideal for us, might be the best way for us to be fixed in a quicker timeframe... not slavery like doing menial work, but definitely being aligned and reigned in... shown our place...

having a superior being, a god, can make things nice and orderly, lawful, while as of now with everyone running around as equals with anyone being able to take the power, leaves lots of room for chaos and disorder.

god has UNLIMITED power though, to the point lifting a finger he/she/it isn't limited to one body, or form, it can do whatever and be whatever whenever it wants, therefore it doesn't need to take away any freedom at all, the god in question could just be the "adult" in the situation, and let us mortals go about our normal days without bloodshed and loss.

and yes i did answer it earlier, i'm too lazy to go back and quote it, as i'm probably done in here for the day, but i mentioned tsunami's, earthquakes, mass flooding, that kind of stuff, and for wars that were going to be catastrophic.

oh and the model of a perfect world, is perfectly imperfect, at the core the god is/was still a human being, so it's not going to turn the world into some pure orderly world like equilibrium or something.

It seems like you want a stale stagnant world where nothing ever changes and we live in a little bubble isolating us from everything else around us. A world where every action you make is ever being watched by an entity you know is there, watching and judging you. A place where the freedom exists in so much that it does not interfere with God's plan and change is impossible.

If the individual stays uncorupted by his/her godhood and leads humanity to peace and harmony, then we pasted the test. If even just one pure individual (1 human is generally better in most ways then more then 1 human, 1 person is certainly harder to corupt) can be corupted then our species doesn't deserve to survive. In that case it would be kinda douchy for the rest of the universe, having this pissed of god walking around. My thoughts exactly. Most be one person on this sorry excuse for 7 BILLION people who wouldnt abuse this? Not for petty things. I know i would. It would be too tempting to use it on those who hated me as a god, to make them see it like i did, but to mess with minds is wrong. Someone would need insane will power.

I think that if a god is omniscient, as in 'he knows everything' that means that whoever you choose will become the same person after the process: a person who is everyone at the same time. It doesnt matter if you choose a thief or a genius in the end he or she will be the same person with the same knowledge and way of thinking, Imagine that a bad person is the left part of a half and a good person is the right half. Omniscience will mean that you are 'both halves' at the same time, or should I say 'every half that exists' at the same time!

I found this a very interesting view point. Does omniscience cause your personality to be swallowed in what has to be the largest extrapolation of logic, faith, facts, fiction and the way the universe is all at once to determine the true and right nature of everything. Would this sudden burst of knowledge make everyone the same? Give them objectiveness on a level that spans an entire world leaving no room for corruption?

But there have been good dictators, plenty of them. Many of the Kings and Queens of europe could be considered to be dictators plenty of them took care of their citizen. I think Napoleon might have been a dictator (not quiet sure) too. And he took proper care of his people too (granted only his people and not).
Before you say things like power corrupts look at people like Ghandi and Nelson Mandela. They were / are incredibly powerfull they could easily rally 500 milion people each. That's some great power there, much more as say Hitler who could barely control 50 milion. Honestly I think arguments like power corrupts are used for the weak who just couldn't handle the power and let the power handle them. I like to think there are still people on this earth who could stay pure and take the role of a God. Accepting the alternative is too depressing for me.

If i was made god....i'd basically hit the reset button on the whole world. Turn it into a medieval setting again. HOWEVER! I'd also add in some magic and spells, along with half a dozen well known fantasy races and monsters as well as replenish resources and make the world itself seven times as big as it is now to accomodate for the larger amount of races and such.

Now i know what you're thinking: What about all the people alive right now? Eh. I'd just make half the population go back to just being born, and the other half rewrite the memories so it fits the new dimension. And wont go and die 2000 years ago leaving us all a bit confused with a book thats been translated far too many times for me to know if its anything like the original. Would be nicer in my view. Also would be nice to be given first hand modern directions.

Just what exactly do you think Jesus Christ is? That describes Him perfectly.

As far as your comment on the Bible - I'd urge you to 1: read it for yourself, and 2: do some research on whether or not what you believe about it is true. I'll give you a spoiler: the Bible is the most trustworthy document that exist from antiquity. More copies and fragments of it exist from antiquity then every single work by the fathers of philosophy (Plato, Socrates, Aristotle, etc) COMBINED. If your vocabulary is particularly high - you could try a book by Bruce Metzger, any of them, or perhaps Dr. Jonathon Pennington.
