So I recently played "To the Moon" and I felt is was a touching and interesting adventure game. I would even put it in my "awesome games of the year" list. But I have never so much have heard it mentioned by any one on this site. So my question is has any one here played it, and if so what did you think of it?

Here's a link to the game website for those who are interested.

Actually someone just recommended this very game to me on another thread about "Games to play with your girlfriend". Never heard of it before. I just downloaded The Mirror Lied from the same site, I'll give it a go later today...

As a game, pretty terrible. The gameplay doesn't go much beyond "Find the really really conspicuous object".

But as a story...geez. Made me bawl. It got to me like no other other piece of fiction ever has (EVER). I laughed, I cried, I was enraptured.

So I like it.

Checked out a screenshot immediately thought isn't that Death Peak from Chrono Trigger except with a lighthouse stapled on?

Never played any of there other games so I dunno how it compares.

EDIT: I got it on steam personally, but I see on the site you can get a free demo of "To the Moon".

I've heard really good things about the game and I bought a copy of it but I can't seem to get into it, the first couple of times the game bugged out and prevented me from progressing past the first 5 minutes of gameplay, which quite frankly is pretty dull. I understand that this game is to be played for the story but I just can't seem to summon the drive to pick up this game again and play it.

Yeah it's not so much a "game" as an interactive story. There are a few light game play elements but I can understand someone who goes into with different preconceptions being disappointed.

Nah, but a lot of the generic background stuff comes from RPG maker which if you've seen the kind of stuff that come with that it has a late 16-bit graphical style. Most reminiscent to me of like FF6.

When it was first released there were a few threads. I haven't played it but it looked like a beautiful game with a good story and terrible gameplay but that's okay because it's an artsy game. Just wondering, how accurate am I?

More or less, but It's not obtuse enough to be "artsy". The most mainstream thing I could compare it to is tell tales "The Walking Dead". A game with a good story but little actual game play.

I liked it well enough.

Story was sufficiently well told and engaging enough for me not to care about the lack of brown people to kill.

Didn't quite grab me as much as it did some other people though.

To the Moon was disappointing.

I was warned in advance, but the lack of things to do or solve was still worse than I expected.
This is a game that definitely would have worked better in another medium. Makes TWD seem interactive by comparison.

Like "The Walking Dead", the game play isn't *bad*. Big Rigs has *bad* game play. To the Moon has *minimal* game play. It's a lot of nosing about in very small environments and clicking on objects. If intricate systems or pulse pounding action is your thing, this might not be the game for you.

However, also like "The Walking Dead", the story is fantastic. I found To The Moon even more emotionally affecting and (by order of magnitude) more philosophically profound than "The Walking Dead", although obviously Telltale's game has it beat in terms of presentation.

I would go so far as to say To the Moon is the finest story I've ever personally encountered in the medium, and is a stirring entrant in the argument as to whether or not vidyer games can rival more traditional media in their ability to create thought provoking or emotionally resonant art.
