For those of you who don't know, Tom Nook is a key character in the Animal Crossing series. Some might even go so far as to say he is the most influential character in the game. He owns all available realty and damn near everyone in town has had to work for him at one point or another. There is a mayor but I bet he could be thrown out with one bad word from Ol' Nook. The problem is I don't know what to make of the guy. He seems too nice for someone with so much power. You'd have to wonder what's his endgame. He gives everyone who wonders into town a house, a mortgage, and a job. Is he a really nice guy or someone with more sinister motive?

Oh, he's evil, alright. He's a predatory lender who regularly saddles you with extravagant debts, knowing you have no reliable to way to pay him back. If, by some miracle of fate, you do manage to pay him off, you're saddled with another debt, this one even larger than the first. He's the ultimate loan shark.

Also, The Terrible Secret of Animal Crossing [http://lparchive.org/LetsPlay/Animal%20Crossing/Update%201/index.html] pretty much explains the true nature of the entire game.

You're new here, eh? Well, I'm gonna be a nice guy and give you a brand new home, complete with furniture, as a show of good will! Now just pay off your $500,000 dept any time you'd like, yes.

Well for someone who has complete control over the entire town I'd say he is actually being pretty nice. The guy is running a monopoly. He could charge ridiculous prices and you wouldn't be able to do anything about it since he owns the only store in town. The fact that he gives you infinite time to pay his debt is also pretty nice.

You want an evil shopkeeper? Try Crazy Redd. He charges ridiculous prices for his "rare and exotic merchandise". Which I'm pretty sure means he just steals it.

In other words, Tom Nook is a loan shark.
Doctor Stranglove avatar? Nice.

Anyway, I'd say he's trying to cope with PTSD and over-compensating, perhaps by using meds. He'll crack soon. Then there will be blood!
