Posting in a 400 post thread like some of the shows regularly is like "throwing a message in a bottle into the ocean" -yahtzee. Its not very effective. "comments link" needs to go to a sub-forum for that article or video. Alternates include; reply tree thingy like in older forums, just starting threads in regular forums with appropriate titles.

Edit: I mean the "comments" threads for a video or article.

Ever notice how 3 different conversations can be going on in a thread?

No. For two reasons:

Some people actually do read through most of the comments.
And
If you're the 400th person to comment on a video, chances are what you've said has been said many, many times already.

And with a better organization i will see that and and not post uselessly.

Edit; Read all the other 400 posts ? 10 pages worth???? 95 % about stuff idc?

Or you can just read the posts, and then write something that contributes to the conversation.

But that's just too much work... /sarcasm

Meh, once a thread has gone past about 3 pages I won't even bother posting in it unless I'm replying to a specific post. By then most things have been said already, and most people won't be reading anything between the first post and the last couple most recent ones.

Mostly true.
Well i am endowed with the magic ability to usualy have unique opinions. Like that ppl who post in 400 post threads expecting not to be noticed are just playing a forum game and not actually interested in information. WELL I HAVE A POINT TO SHARE!!!!!

Doesn't matter if you have a unique opinion. The forums is simple and efficient as it is.

Look at this way.

I started a thread that, to this day, has 614 posts, and I've read each and every one of them.
As far as videos and official articles go....maybe it's not worth posting on after that?

What thread? What did you gain from those 600 posts? Did each have unique to say?

Why? I'm sure the tech team would like to not overhaul the whole damn comment system for content when the actual readers are too lazy to see if what they have to say is relevant.

ESPECIALLY if redoing the system is just going to end up with a lower post count. That makes them feel like they've accomplished something, I'm sure.

So do I. Interestingly, though, "unique" doesn't necessarily mean "important".

If your opinion is REAAAALLY important, <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.280426-A-Response-to-Extra-Credits-Learning-from-Other-M>make your own thread about it. We won't hate you for it, usually.

2nd post would be true Nack. Except it doesn't seem to work for me. My thread:

3 others on this topic.

40 pages of wall to wall text and noone can give concrete useful examples.

I'd say that the OTD thread needs sub-forums, and maybe even the gaming thread, but Featured Content?

That's because your thread was impenetrable. I had to read the first line about four times before I was clear on what you were asking. Then, you tossed a bunch of examples with no reasons WHY they were there, or why I should bother clicking the link when I could go watch "Fuzzy Fuzzy Cute Cute" again instead. Titles and YouTube videos are not meat in an OP, they're dinner at an entirely different restaurant. Why don't YOU tell me why they're good examples, instead of making me jump to a different website?

Two of the example threads you gave me were content threads, so they encapsulate everything that anyone has to say. No one will say anything meaty (mostly) because you're right, it'll get lost in there.. The other one was an exciting and interesting to read personal story on why gamification works, with hopes of making a documentary. It doesn't reference your question of "Where can I get decent Edutainment?" (For the record, I quite enjoyed the Riverdeep stuff with the ADAPT learning system, such as Reader Rabbit and Cluefinders, when I was younger).

The issue isn't that there should be sub-forums for each piece of content (you'd get the same response there, if not less). The problem is that you aren't good at making threads.

- remain quiet during the test

- remain quiet during the movie

- ensure students pay attention during the movie for a future assignment

I take it the these are the goals?

"Will get lost" Sub-forums would fix that. Sooooo they avoid "meaty" things k. Forum games.

"List of decent edutainment" That guy must be a really fast pioneer if no-one has examples to compare his methods too. On that note; someone mentioned Oregon Trail on that thread just for reminiscence sake.

"you'd get the same response" This thread is not the main reason I want the subforums. But the thread's existence in the sub-forum would shame them into trying. One thread in the Gaming pool is lost.

Ever notice how 3 different conversations can be going on in a thread?
