Edit: to all the people asking what it is, can you not use google?
They are probably like me and too lazy to actually go to another site and do a search to figure out what option to choose for a poll... But yeah, I can type without looking at the keyboard... I only use 3 fingers though (2 on right, 1 on left)... Don't use the "proper way" because I can use 3 fingers faster and not have to think about it... do still have to look for some numbers on the top row and some symbols though... oh, and anyone that says it is impossible to use 3 fingers and not look at the keyboard (like my dad says), you are wrong.

I voted yes, but it's more like "somewhat". I can type without looking at the keyboard all right, but I only use my middle fingers to type (don't ask me why), so I can't type as fast as "true" touch typers.

The hell is touch typing? I'm assuming you mean you have the muscle memory of where the desired keys are. I'm starting to master it, thanks to engineering and all those bloody lab that had to be typed up.

I'm 16 years old, and am going into my third year of high school and am only now learning how to touch type and was curious about how many of my fellow escapists know how. So, I ask you, do you know how to touch type?
Yus, I learnt quite naturally over the course of a couple of weeks by playing a MMORPG and BattleField 2142 without a microphone. When you need to type lots fast, you get good really quickly.

Blindfold me, and I'll still be able to type (With average accuracy) the more often searched articles.
EDIT: I've been using computers since I was 3...

Was able to touch type since I was... Well, I think grade 5. We had to type up this story and send it in; I decided to power nerd it and teach myself how to touch type.

Yes, I mostly can even though I look at the keyboard sometimes but I've typed all of this without looking, so I can.

Well when I'm creating my own sentences (such as now) I do fine, but when I try to do those blasted typing tests that have you type a bunch of words on a screen...I fail miserably. :/

I can touch type and i learned without realising, what happened was i played allot of MMO's back in the day and i used MSN on a regular basis so i quickly was able to do simple things like lol as those 2 are over the top of each other after that i slowly built up a mental map of the positions of the keys learing where the most commonly used letters are first and putting the skill to use when i was quick typing messages in wow.

I didn't realise what i was doing for a long while until a person in my class looked at me typing and said "I wish i could touch type like you"

A side effect of this learing style is that while most people who properly learn touch typing rest there 2 idex fingers on the j and f keys there the are little ridges to let you feel them as you touch type i rest my hand on WASD gaming force of habit.

I'm touch typing this but I am moderately faster in situations where I don't have to be looking up and can have a little glance at the keyboard between words. I have to force myself to not look down so its just abit weird. When I'm typing normally I look down for about the first word of a sentence to see that my hands are in the correct position. I'm just having fun forcing myself to touchtype now.

Backspace count = 6
This sums it up for me perfectly.
One backspace for that.

Not on my crappy laptop keyboard. The 'o' works half the time and it's small in itself(9"). But on my home PC I can. I just turned 16 today.

To everyone who said they can, do you have enough faith in your typing to be able to look away from the screen, and still know you've typed it right?
I've gotten to the point now, where I'm backspacing because I know I've pressed the wrong key, without actually seeing it on screen, haha

Hahaha, so true. I've always wondered how people rest their hands on their keyboard if they aren't gamers. One hand rested on the mouse and one on wsad.

I can touch type, but only on my home computer, or my laptop. If I dare to switch to anything else I begin to type weird letters all over the place, and I constantly shift my hands so that they are in the wrong positions.

I also cant type at all on Mac-books or on those "smooth-key" keyboards. When the keys don't have substance to them, and there supposed "keys" are just small white planes groped next to a whole 101 white planes, my fingers just go crazy. I need to feel the groves of the key and the key next to it in order to type.
