Yet another thread that I've been holding in for a while and was reminded of. The recent "Bullet Hell" thread got me to actually start it.

Has anyone ever heard of the Touhou series and how many have ever played it? It's technically not mainstream, but I suspect that the fanbase is a hell of a lot larger than when I first found out about it. This is mostly kinda for a headcount for curiosity on the Escapist.

Do you have a favorite entry in the series, a favorite character, and do you follow the materials outside the games (fan works included)? Or are you one of those who only play the games and nothing more (can you beat Lunatic yet)? Or perhaps you never touched the games and rather check up on all the new fan-art that comes out every day? Also, how long have you been a part of the series fandom?

I've been following the series for about a year now. I play the games and keep up with the outside works (mostly the latter at the moment). I've yet to 1CC any of the shooters on Normal mode or higher. I default to hard mode at the moment in hopes that it'll make me better.

As I posted in the other bullet hell thread, I know the series. Can't play it, but love to watch other people play it.

Heard of it, never played it. I just don't care for bullet hell games.

Fantastic music though.

Never played it, but I've watched it played and I've watched the animation.

This may or may not count as shameless group advertising, but it's relevant.

Too bad the discussion board doesn't see much nowadays.

And so the numbers on the Escapist are much smaller than I thought. No one actually played it?

....It seems I forgot how to embed videos

Edit: Finally remembered how

Player of games and member of fandom here. Of course, I'm not really good at the games. The best I've gotten is beating EoSD on Normal.

How does that work? Eiki and Komachi cheat and dodge everything you throw at them.

It has kicked my ass like 50 billion times, during recess(pause during classes) I'd play it at times in the computer labplace.

My head exploded from the awesomeness that was the first video.

Touhou threw me into the genre known as SHMUPs and dragged me into bullet hell... and I loved every minute of it. And still do. I regularly play Touhou, watch the fanon and enjoy the awesome music. Since Touhou I have become a huge fan of the bullet hell subgenre and am now playing games like DeathSmiles and, as soon as I get some money, Mushihimesama Futari. Thanks Touhou!! And thank you ZUN!!
