Well without sounding clichéd, yes I think it is real. Very few people experience it though.

Logically, no as its just chemicals in the brain that will cause an emotional response that will after about 3 years stop.

But don't tell me that...
With other words I voted yes as your question was if I believe in it...

I voted no.
Love can never be true, even in a happy marriage that lasts for the rest of the participant's lifetimes there will always be problems and hurdles that must be overcome.
Although maybe you could argue that the dealing with such problems is what makes it true, either way my mind is made.

Its an illusion. Its there to trick us into thinking its the meaning of life, whereas the real meaning is that we were made to breed, eat and sleep. We are clever beings.

I'm quite happy to believe in it, I always loved my girlfriend from when I first saw her.

Yes. Not in any magical sense of course, its existence actually would be purely coincidental. But that's not to say that it couldn't, or doesn't happen sometimes.

I maybe a bitter old man... but yes... although highly unlikely. You will be ending up with a not-perfect-for-you partner. But: Any love is good love.

It's easy to mistake lust for love. But on extremely rare occasions, love does exist.

Also, some people mistakenly believe "true love" is forever. But sometimes, people who are in love grow to be different people, and then they aren't the same people who were in love.

There's nothing sacred about being in love.

Yes, I do believe in true love. Then again, I'm a romantic, as shown through my short story writing...

Well, yes and no.

The concept of 'twue wuv' is fundamentally based on the idea of a nigh-perfect relationship, and in the real world, as we know, most relationships aren't perfect. Sometimes peoples' personalities aren't compatible, sometimes real life issues can drive a couple apart, or maybe it just wasn't meant to be.

However, I think it's safe to say that the only people who really have a good chance at achieving true love in their lifetime are those that really do love their partner, and resolve to stick with them and look past their flaws, no matter how bad things can get at times.

Life rewards people for not giving up, and the prospect of true love is probably the greatest testament to that essential truth. Just don't count on it happening- many people go through life never finding 'true love' no matter what approach they take.

Find me an equal, who I care about, who cares about me, shares relevant interests - throw in a little sexual attraction - what else would you want? I think love exists, not in the "soulmates" sense, but as a composite. If you've got intimacy, passion, commitment, mutual respect - if you've got a real partnership - what else would you call it but true love?

Chemicals just explain how you feel. Love is more than feeling good about being with someone, even if that feels like what love should.

Strong words from someone who broke up with his longtime girlfriend, right?

In a word? No. It's just chemicals in your brain.

Humans, as a species, were not meant to mate for life. If you can make it work, fine. But most people never will. Some people will fool themselves into thinking they've made it work.

But some people prefer the illusion.

I think you mean limerance. There's a big difference between "I want to jump her bones!" and "I adore everything she does. She's perfect."

I'd say you wind up with a lot of limerant people who aren't really in love.
