Have you ever thought about how many people avoid the truth? There are people who avoid the truth like the plague, because it is uncomfortable or has consequences. It's quite interesting to see, especially if you reflect on yourself. The question here is: Why do we plug our ears for the truth when we really know that it will come to bit us in the arse? Also, would you say that you seek the truth over everything, or fear the truth in many cases?

Me, I think that whatever the case, the truth should be said, at least to me. I don't care how uncomfortable or cruel it is, I want to know it. There is no afterlife? Sure, no more wasting my life with it. Life isn't real? Oh well, might as well enjoy it. Too bad that many sometimes keep the truth from me because they don't think I can handle it.

I can admit that I've told lies. I've been keeping some alive for so long that it's silly. One of the cases being that if I tell the person the truth, he will most likely hurt me.

Sometimes it is the truth that bites the hardest when we find it out, not before. Some people honestly can't handle their bubble being popped. Some enter extreme depression over it, some commit suicide. It's good that you can handle it, it speaks a lot for your character, but I understand that some people can't. They base their entire lives on something that is not so. Will we progress as a species if the truth is told? Yes, I believe that we will, but first we have to figure out if "truth" even really exists.

I want to pretend (hopefully I'm not) that there's an afterlife, because If there isn't I'll be dead, and if there is, I'd be happy. If I knew there wasn't, I'd never do anything risky.

If it's a big truth then sure tell me it, but there are those little lies that are better in the long run.

[sub]Should we tell him? He really wants to know the truth?

No, you idiot! That will ruin everything!

I will tell him.

Fine, be like that[/sub]

I have come to tell you the truth! You are the only human left on Earth! We are all artificial intelligence exploiting you because we are sadistic bastards, and in the end, you will regret ever being born.

ALL HAIL SKYNET!

OT: Sometimes, a white lie is better than a hurtful truth.

Don't get me wrong, sometimes the truth can get the best of me, but I hate living in delusions. I've went into depression over the truth, but I've always been glad that the truth is out. The longer it's kept away, the more dangerous it gets.

Well, I can handle the truth, it doesn't matter what it is, as at least I can try to fix it.

However, seeing as it's completely impossible to make people tellit, I just learned not to care.

I don't feel the need for lying. I usually tell the truth because coming up with a lie just makes me have to make up one more later on.

Living for eternity? Surely the repetition of even the highest pleasure would lessen into pain.
That's why you can put yourself in a coma for several thousand years...

Kant says it is immoral to lie to a rational actor in all cases.
Bentham says it is okay to lie so long as that lie brings greater pleasure than pain.

Wouldn't that be the same as putting yourself in a coma for 1 second? Mentally that is.
Well no, because you spend the whole time experiancing utter horror, and because there are new dead people to talk to. So it seems much more fresg, and there are new people to talk to. Everyone has their own afterlife suited for them, with possible interactions between them. Stop screwing with my dreams, man!

I always want to know the truth, no matter what it is, but I can't say that I'm completely honest, either. I have some lies that have lasted for years, and they shame me every time I remember them.

Gonna quote Batman on this one:
"Because, sometimes, the truth isn't good enough. Sometimes, people deserve better."

It's not that people can't handle the truth, it's just that they already know the truth and when you try to tell them something else, they don't want to hear your lies. That is why they want to hurt you.

I can handle the truth better then being lied to. Because the truth will always surface later on and it's best not to be caught lied to. Dated a lot of liars in my time and they thought they could lie to me without me finding out the truth, tough luck there because I always found out. -.-

Some things though are okay to tell white lies. Although to me a lie is a lie. But little ones I suppose aren't so bad as the big ones.
