After a very long lecture about the digital transition, the idea of technological convergence, cable versus broadcast, improper disposal of e-waste, global advertising models, and the issues of employment in the TV industry; my teacher asked us to discuss the notion that TV is dead. It was a really interesting discussion and after I got home I was wondering what you guys thought.

Most people don't like using computers for anything more than the internet and office software. They don't really want to watch anything in a tiny YouTube video with poor resolution, and better resolution requires better internet infrastructure.
This is rapidly changing. Youtube gets better every year with better speeds of connections and eventually maybe we can stream 1080p videos without buffering. Right now, no, but it's quite possibl the future.

I still watch TV, though not as much as I did when I was younger. Although almost every time I watch it I am watching recorded shows from earlier in the week, so does that count?

I prefer using my 42 inch LCD TV, but then again I live in Brazil and I can't legally or quickly watch shows online.

I do get every good show on TV, although I'm usually a few weeks behind.

i don't watch as much T.V as i used to but that's because there's nothing on i want to watch. re-runs of old programs are great but there aren't any decent new shows. the digital age won't kill T.V, they probably said that T.V will kill the radio yet that's still going strong.

TV is not going anywhere for a while, at least ten years. So, no, it is not dead. The fact that people still tune in would verify this as well.

And it will certainly not die as long as LOST is on, I'll tell ya that much.

When Firefly died, tv went along with it.
Only shows I watch now are The Office and Lost.

No, mine still works.

There are roughly 12 trillion channels to choose from today, one would think if TV was dead there would be significantly less, and that they wouldn't spend thousands and thousands on making every episode of pretty much everything they show.

...

I'll watch shows online sometimes, but I don't watch TV anymore. I'm not sure if I'm ahead of the curve or just a minority.

I don't watch that much TV, seeing as I prefer to play games instead. I have youtube, and BBC iplayer for the specific shows that I do watch.

I have basically eliminated my need for TV.

Hulu with its high resolution shows and movies and other websites like these are slowly but surly killing the TV.

TVO prolonged its life span but it isn't going to survive unless They abduct Jhonen Vasquez and make him write and direct everything on it. That's the only solution I can think of that would stop it from sinking into the outer hells and dieing amidst the cries of dying, boiling babes.

TV goes through phases of sucking and not sucking. So are we in the suck? Kinda, but there's no way that TV will ever die. Not as long as Oprah is telling middle-aged women how to be sexy and successful and not as long as Dr. Phil is doing...well, whatever the hell he does.

And Springer.

Gotta love Jerry.

I think that TV is dying, not dead. Internet just has to advance a little bit more like faster internet being possessed by more people. Once that happens then i think alot more networks will do what hulu already has. Made TV shows available on the internet with minimal commercials and the ability to watch and pause any time for free
