On New Year's Eve, I had a chat with my friends as we watched the fireworks light up the Miami skyline, and we discussed whether it was still appropriate to start the pronunciation of this new decade with "Two-Thousand" or "Twenty."

I think that we should be saying Twenty-Ten now that we're out of the 2000's. I thought we should have been saying Twenty-O-Blank from the beginning, but we kind of shot ourselves in the foot by calling it the year Two-Thousand.

What do you think escapists? In the future do you really think people are going to be saying Two-Thousand-One-Hundred-Ten when they should just be saying Twenty-One-Ten? If not now, when should we switch over?

The official reading of it is two thousand and ten. But everybody will be pronouncing it Twenty-Ten because it's too much of a mouthful

I agree. I used to say it should be called 20-whatever when it first changed over since we called the 1900s(or 2000s, I can never remember which) 19-whatever. Then I got into 2000 but now I'm back to wondering why we ever called it the wrong thing in the first place.

Twenty-Ten.

Remember NFL Blitz? I owned the 2002 edition, and the announcer would always say "twenty-oh-two". I just got reminded of that.

Twenty-ten. Why? It's good enough for Bad Religion, therefore it is good enough for me.

I have to ask what difference it makes. As long as we all know what we're talking about, who cares? It's like arguing about the proper pronunciation of potato or tomato.

I use two-thousand-ten myself. However the most common way of pronunciation that I've heard is oh-ten.

For me Two Thousand and ten feels more natural, it's only when we get to the teens that I'll convert to the 20-thing.
