I was listening to my favorite morning show (Dave Ryan ftw!) and it turns out that Crisco, one of the members who has been on the show for about ten years, has jumped ship and gone to a different radio station.

Now the important bit is that he gave no notice at all, which of course got me thinking: When you have quit your job (or jobs), do you give your two week notice or do you just say that you're outtie? Any particular reason why? Any good stories!?!

I've had about six different jobs in my life and all but one got (at least) a two week notice. The one that did not got only a one week notice because I was offered a new job but I had to start immediately. I did feel a bit bad about it (and it was later so I did offer to do two weeks with limited hours) but I figured since it's a call center, they are used to people who have just given up to stop showing up so a one week notice was plenty :)

Yeah, I always give two weeks notice. Sometimes the employer takes me up on it, sometimes they tell me I don't need to stay if I don't want to. Either way, I always give them that courtesy.

That said, if an employer treated me so incredibly badly that the reason for me quitting was because I happened to be miserable working there... in that hypothetical situation, I'd probably just bail.

The only jobs I've had are volunteer jobs... So no, I never really gave that much notice. I'd just phone them and go "Yeah.. I'm not gonna show up anymore."

Don't get me wrong, I didn't just jump ship randomly, I had reasons. :I

I was sort of in the same boat as sky. I volunteered at the local humane society for a bit over 6 months. There were a couple things there that I saw that I couldn't ever really recover from, and some other things that I really wish I'm wrong about. One day I told the lady in charge that I just couldn't do it anymore. She told me she understood, and thanked me for my help. That was the last day I spent there.

As for me, I've always given 2 weeks notice. It just seems like the right thing to do, so the person isn't left super scrambling to find replacements

None of the poll options are really applicable to me since I've had two jobs in the past but both ended at a fixed pre-arranged date, so there was no need to give notice. I guess I would though if I was to quit a job that wasn't already arranged to finish, it seems a little dickish just to leave them hanging.

Yeah, I've always given two weeks notice whenever I quit jobs. It's kind of just a courtesy - I'd think it very rude if someone quit on me without giving it, so I always make sure to give it. I've not always needed to - like, temporary factory work and warehouse work didn't require a two weeks notice but I gave it anyway, and my employers thanked me for the courtesy.

You kinda have to, it's courtesy. Gives you time to train a replacement, and look elsewhere if you haven't got something lined up.

I give two weeks notice if I intend to use the job as a reference for my next hiring.

If I don't care and I just want to leave, I'm gone. Sometimes bosses just don't deserve that courtesy after making your working hours a living hell... <.<

My one job I gave a somewhat informal two week notice, I just told my manger I'd be leaving in two weeks but I didn't write anything down. The job after I just stopped going cause I had to leave for University.

I've had two jobs so far. My previous and my current one.

And the former I didn't quit but was forced to resign. This current one is just for the season so the position won't exist after December.

But I'm fond of imagining that I'd give my notice.

Work is for the plebs, I would give notice if I was a pleb though, I am not rude.

One time I quit the minute I clocked out for lunch, and just never came back. The other time, I gave as much advanced notice as I had, which was a week and a half, but they just told me not to come back after that week. I told them I couldn't work any more because I was getting a real job (Not in those words, but I was quitting a part time pizza place to go work in a factory for 50 hours a week) and that I needed Friday off for my orientation the next week. They told me to just not come back after that Sunday.

Only time I didn't give 2 week notice was when I found out that the owner/manager of the
restaurant (I was an assistant manager) had lied to my face about an important issue.
One that was easy to check on.
