Complaining about extramusical elements like U2 being bad because of Bono's hypocrisy would lead you to not listening to Mussorgsky (or really any of the Russian composers) because he was a raging alcoholic or Wagner because he was an evil anti-Semitic bastard.

Or Brahms, who was a pedophile.

As for U2, don't really like them, but their old stuff was definately better. They don't write lyrics anymore, they just go 'yeahyeahyeahyeahyeah woohoowoohoo!'

That's only really the album starters like Vertigo and Zoo Station, which most U2 fans I've talked to wrote off. Some are actually quite deep, like "Sometimes you can't make it on your own" (they really need to cut down on the size of the names of these songs and albums. Seriously, this song was originally called "tough"), which was written by Bono about his then-dying, now-dead father (he sang it at his funeral), or "Miracle Drugs," which was written about a quadriplegic boy they grew up with, and his mother's love for him.

What's so bad about U2?

bono for starters, i mean going to complain about corporate greed and how evil and crappy they are and then playing the superbowl, which is the largest corporate sponsored yearly event, saying how we should all care about the environment and then going everywhere in his private jet

and musically they aren't very great, their main hook is a delay on the guitar and that's all it's really ever been

Hey, Stanley Kubrick was a dick as well, doesn't change the fact that he's a directing genius.

But I agree about their music; well, at least their more recent ones. Every song before 2000 is above average. WAY above today's standard.
