of course i would sign the petition though its more likely that Ubisoft will not understand even if we vote with our wallets and not buy Ass2
Yes; the problem I see with people just not buying it is then they'll say "well no one wants to buy our games on PC so we won't make them for the PC".
That's probably what'll happen. Piracy has already made a huge cut PC sales. Hell, we should be thankful that ANYTHING still comes out on PC.

Besides, PC gamers (and I'm one, to an extent, with my shitty PC, and a ton of adventure games from Steam), are the minority now.
Minority in which way?

That's a pretty tough thing to judge if you're basing it on sales, and Steam increased 25% in its user-base last year.

And, even if you don't think it'll work, it can't hurt just typing out your name can it?

You never know.
Give me a minute to find one that includes digital distribution sales. Until then:

http://forum.pcvsconsole.com/viewthread.php?tid=15831

for now, look at the 1.4 Billion of pc game spending in 2005 vs the 10.3 billion on consoles in 2005.
They're physical units, aren't they?

I think you'll find it pretty hard to find online sales figures.

Anyway, just because we're the minority doesn't mean we don't matter, nor does it mean they don't make money from us.
Indeed, we DO matter. But do we matter enough?

I can tell you that the console companies (who also happen to be publishers/devs, like Ubisoft) don't give a shit. Nintendo. Sony (correct me if I'm wrong here, please). Microsoft tried, and failed, with "Gamez 4 Windowz L1v3".

I have a Wireless connection that has a tendency to go down every so often. So all of a sudden this sounds like a bad idea to get a game that requires a constant connection. I will not be purchasing your product when it is released or anytime in the near future while it has this DRM embedded into it.

Also, I have a feeling this game will get cracked by pirates within 1 week of release, or before

I bought 1 Ubisoft game last year: HAWX on the 360. I have not bought a Ubisoft PC game in a long time. I think I bought the Ghost Recon boxset on Steam when it was £10. But Ubisoft doesn't really have many high profile releases, or many good games to be honest. Pissing off the fans with DRM in pretty much their best release in the last 3 years is a sure fire way of losing customers.

Three choices according to the wiki page. I don't even know where 'Montreuil-sous-Bois' is.

Oh, some place in Paris. I guess that's okay.

I'll sign. I used to be a balance between PC and console gaming until my 360 got stolen, though I'm working to replace that soon. Right now though, I'm a PC gamer, and I really do think we've all been truly screwed over by Ubisoft, and other developers and publishers too in the pat. It seems like PC gaming is being ruined because the companies can't be bothered to promote it anymore, they all think that consoles are the way forward and this just isn't the case (look at the rise of indie developers on PC, and Steam and other digital distributors, for example). Even if I wasn't a PC gamer I'd still sign. Put me down as up for it :).

[small](oh, and if Ubisoft decide to pull a Gabe Newell and invite you to Montreal, please take me with you. Please...?)[/small]

To be honest if the DRM requires a internet connection for a SPG then they will loose out on more money because people will get the cracked version simply because it wont require a connection, I don't support cracked games but a constant forced connection for a SPG it just counter-productive.

Petitions don't do shit. Boycotts don't do shit. L4D2, CoD:MW2, both had petitions for design flaws, and neither got changed.

If you really hate what they did, just don't buy the game, but don't think for a minute that these companies care in the least about an internet petition.

Signed. I already have AC2 on my PS3, anyway, but this is a point of principle - what are they thinking?? Do they not realize they're shooting themselves in the foot with explosive shotgun rounds by implementing such an asinine system?

Not that i was gonna buy it anyway. But i hate all forms of DRM.

And yes, im aware it'll do fuck all. But still. I want to show my dislike to this corporate bollock hold over the consumers.

Well, I've signed. And I've also posted the link on my Facebook page, so I suggest other people do the same on Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, Youtube, Bebo and anything else they may be a part of. We need to spread the message far and wide, people!

Ok, you've got a few problems with spelling here. I'll work in an edited version, give me five minutes or so.
I've corrected the couple that were there, don't worry. I'm also English and you're American so that's where any other differences may arise. I appreciate the help though.

Head over to: http://www.petitiononline.com/ew15dl94/petition.html and sign!

If you're part of a large Steam group, or any other sort then please inform as many as you can.

I'll not sign it because it's a bit dim. Clearly Ubi know that this is going to be unpopular, so the petition has to say more than just "we don't like this"

Dear Ubisoft Entertainment,

This petition has been created in response to the recent announcement of your latest DRM system, which you have stated will be used for all future PC games published by your studios.

While your implementation of some form of DRM is understandable, the methods this version uses to combat piracy will only alienate those ready, willing and able to purchase your games through legal means. This new, draconian format alienates the PC gaming community, forcing its members to:

A) Submit to an entirely unfair standard of DRM which punishes ONLY the willing consumer,
B) Purchase the games in question on other platforms/ignore the game entirely, or
C) Pirate cracked versions via torrents, warez sites, etc. to escape the strict measures of DRM.

The final option not only harms Ubisoft Entertainment, but also the PC gaming community: for as the number of pirates grows, corporations like your own are forced to seek fiercer forms of copy protection. Large-scale piracy is something that neither party desires to see happen: Ubisoft Entertainment desires to protect its intellectual property and we [the PC gaming community] desire to purchase/play your games without being treated like common criminals.

Therefore, we ask:

1) That you seriously revise your future plans for how DRM works in single-player games (such as the soon to be released Assassin's Creed 2): in particular, an internet connection should not be constantly required. There are MANY players out there who are not in possession of stable internet connections, or even in possession of internet connections at all: to these people, this new DRM scheme means that they will be incapable of enjoying your products.

2) That Ubisoft Entertainment look at other DRM functions of the past (implemented not only by yourselves, but by other companies as well) and see how easily they are broken by pirates. We ask you to understand that the use of DRM only causes problems for the gamers out there which legally acquire copies of your games. The consumers must suffer through such potential issues as servers going down, logins not working correctly, backround security programs (such as Securom) slowing down their computers, etc: while in the meantime pirates can play without such harsh (and sometimes invasive) problems thanks to their ability to bypass your software's security protocols.

I hope that those in charge of the implementation of DRM of Ubisoft Entertainment will take note of this petition, the many articles published across the internet on the subject of DRM, and the general response said articles have received from the gaming public.

It's not my best work, but it's more professional-looking/sounding than before (no offense intended.)

EDIT: Made some edits.

If you go to the link it is edited more from I posted on the OP.

Whilst not overly complicated, I feel it sufficiently describes why people don't like it and what needs to change.

Should the numbers reach a high enough amount, the general opinion of PC gamers will be displayed regardless of how I've worded it. I'm not going to lie, the half an hour I spent writing it out was hardly enough time to equate to anything I need to write for English coursework, but it gets the message across by stating why we don't like it and asks them to change it.

Besides, even if nothing comes from you signing, there's more of a chance something will happen if you do sign then if you don't.
